I love your note on ‘world music influence’ and the reference to Sarawak. I loved that project too, and Ekali had a feature on it!
Your comment about Ekali being a mix between Flume, KRANE, and Illenium is so on-point. Maybe that’s why he’s one of my favorites.
Your keen ear really surprised me on that Porter reference! I didn’t notice that, and I’ve been listening to nothing but A World Away and Worlds on repeat for the past two weeks.
While I absolutely loved this album and have been obsessed with Ekali for awhile now, your more ‘honest’ takes are definitely well-stated.

(Side-note: Ekali said one of his goals for 2020 is to make another album with just instrumental music by him, so maybe your comment about him fleshing out his own sound will be fulfilled this year!)

If you don’t “understand the hype” see a live set. Imo his talent comes mostly from his pristine mixing abilities

The songs with vocals are my favorites with Be Fine being my favorite and I don't understand pointing out a similar melody when they are two different songs that aren't the same at all in every other way that really matters. I personally have heard music kind of similar to this album, but there are many things that make it sound unique to Ekali and even things I've noticed he's been consistently incorporating for years.

First listen to this channel, but the review comes off as if you think you could do it better. I have no idea what your background is, so maybe you have a legitimate claim to thinking you could have done it better, but I’d have preferred a little more honey and a little less vinegar.
