Why Natural Latex Mattresses Are So Expensive | So Expensive | Insider Business

One of the most expensive mattresses on the market is made from natural latex. It’s hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and more durable than memory foam. You can buy a memory-foam mattress for a few hundred dollars, but natural latex mattresses usually cost over $1,500 and can exceed $2,000. Latex sap from rubber trees is in high demand from dozens of industries, including car tires. This high demand has caused deforestation and displacement of farmers in places like Cambodia. Some mattress companies source their latex from organic and fair-trade-certified farms in places like Guatemala, but the latex from these farms comes at a premium compared to the latex from noncertified plantations. We explored why natural latex mattresses are so expensive.

Editor's note: We're clarifying a statement made at 0:22. While natural latex is resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew, the latex itself can still be considered an allergen. Avocado does not claim that its mattresses are hypoallergenic and recognizes that they might not be appropriate for those with an existing latex allergy. We regret the error.

Everybody talking about their mattresses, but how awesome is Doroteo? Man is skilled and knowledgeable and passionate about his work!

Well at $2, 600 it’s not all that expensive considering how it is made and it being 100% natural, but a $1, 000 for a FOAM is definitely expensive

You know… Is it just me or does $2, 600 for a natural premium mattress not seem too expensive in the grand scheme of things.

I have an organic natural latex mattress and it was definitely expensive and worth every single penny. My back was injured after a car accident, and I got so much relief after I got my mattress a year or two after my accident. I would buy it over and over again.

I am used to polyurethane and spring mattresses, its my first time seeing latex being used in mattresses. I get educated every time I check out this channel.

Gotta be honest this is the first product that the price is understandable. Mattresses can last over a decade if treated right so I’m willing to spend money on a good one.

I've been on latex mattresses for 15 years. It's great. My current one only cost $700, infused with charcoal (supposedly to eliminate odors since some people complain that it can smell like chocolate - as if that would be a bad thing). Anyway, they're great and good for the back.

Buying a latex mattress was one of the best purchases I ever made. I ended up buying standalone components with the help of the mattress underground forum.
The latex is so much more breathable than memory foam so you sleep super cool

I grew up going to my aunt's job where they dealt wholesale with poly foams. We always had mattress toppers, but the best thing I had were the latex pillows. I now own a Kluft mattress and topper, and got two pillows too. Quality craftmanship with natural materials is the best investment.

I bought a latex mattress 10 yrs ago and it is still going strong. As someone who has allergic reactions to chemicals it was difficult to find something to sleep on that was all natural. I found a company called sleep on latex and was able to customize the width. I went with them because their mattress is 100% natural... all they use is the latex... no fillers, chemical stabilizers, etc. I flip it once a month. If/when this thing starts to "compress" I will certainly be getting another one.

We've had a latex mattress now for 7 years and it's the most amazing mattress I've ever slept on. No change in the feel of the bed in all that time. I'll never switch to anything else.

I have an Avocado latex mattress and it is amazing. Weights a TON but was worth every penny.

They're definitely worth it. There are toppers too. You don't sink in like memory foam and they don't get as hot either.

I personally prefer the texture and spring of Talalay process latex foam rubber over the Dunlop process. Having said that, if you are to have an entirely latex foam mattress, then you would still want your core to be a Dunlop process latex, as it is typically more robust and supportive compared to Talalay process latex. It is also cheaper. Just use Talalay process latex for the top layer to add additional softness and comfort, since it is able to deform more before rebounding compared to Dunlop process latex.

Latex mattresses have been known to last a lifetime. No toxic fumes breathed in during sleep. I bought mine using dunlop process for about $1k. Dunlop process is longest lasting.

Im almost halfway thru the video and Im really hoping they touch back on more strongly about the biodegradable nature of latex. I cant fathom the number of mattresses that go to landfill and will be there for thousands of years due to polyurethanes and fabrics that cant degrade.

Also own a full latex mattress and its nice and firm without causing pressure points. Had it for three years so if anyone has any questions Ill be happy to answer
