Finding 400-500 Million Year Old Trilobite Fossils in Georgia! The Oldest Fossils I Have Ever Found!

On the way up to Michigan for my mothers wedding, we stopped in Georgia to hunt for Trilobite fossils! I made a mistake with the age in the video. These trilobites are actually from the Cambrian period, not the Devonian. So, these fossils are around 485-541 million years old! These are by far the oldest fossils I have ever found in my life and I am absolutely humbled and thrilled by it.

"Trilobites are are a group of extinct marine arachnomorph arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Trilobites form one of the earliest-known groups of arthropods."

I always recommend getting a Jewelers loupe to really enjoy rock hounding. Sometimes the prettiest things are very small.

That place is real pretty and had some awesome finds. Really cool when you find both halves at the same time. Found a lot too. Was fun to watch. Great video

Looks like you and Ashley had a great day! I love the trilobytes, I think it's marvellous that something so old has survived to leave such a wonderful imprint behind! Please continue to surprise us with your different fossil finds!

Hi, Lady Ashley! o7
We have a really great trilobite site(at least 3 different species) here in Utah that is open to the public for a few dollars. I believe it’s called U-pick Fossils. You found some really tiny ones. Those are frakkin awesome. They definitely have a different coloration and stuff than the ones here.

Great video! I believe this is the Conasauga Shale and the trilobites are Aphelaspis. The pieces with multiple trilobites could be death assemblages where many animals die and are preserved in the same location, or they could be molts, since trilobites shed their exoskeletons as they grew. They're also often found enrolled like pillbugs.

Trilobites are cool fossils . There is some sites on Weiss Lake that we have collected in the past . In the Winter when they drop the lake levels you can go to some sites with a rake and turn over the gravel . You will find nodules with trilobites on one side of them . My buddy got one about three inches long . You can also dig in the shale along the banks and find them . We also get Jelly fish fossils at these sites .

So cool, when I was a kid, we use ta hunt fossils in the shale along the Ottawa River in Ottawa Ontario, Canada. The shale was always a dark grey, an if ya got lucky, the trilobite fossil looked like shiny gold. I think we used to find plants, but we never kept them, we were after trilobites. Great vid Kyle an Ashley. 👊
