The relevant things are truth, honesty and justice. The moral question for the PO - Paula Vennells, the executive and the board - was whether it was justifiable to send a single innocent SPM to jail on the basis of NO evidence or FALSE evidence. Every ordinary decent person in the land knows the answer to that question. The PO has been untruthful, dishonest and unjust. Nothing any of these numpties can now say extenuates or detracts from that basic truth.

How does someone get to be Chairman of a large business without 1) understanding what a statutory audit is 2) who the auditors's report to 3) understanding the concepts of 'true and fair view' and 'materiality? FACT, the auditors only cared about Horizon IT discrepancies IF overall on a NET basis they MATERIALLY affected either the NET PROFIT or the NET assets of the business. Plainly the figures for the SPM cock ups were not material in the context of the whole business and the Auditors could not care less about the Post Masters - it was not their job. They had to answer only one question:- did the accounts show a true and fair view. Given the very wide latitude the auditors did not have to worry about the bogus prosecutions...

This is what I have heard from many witnesses who trusted other, more-experienced or it appears under-qualified staff and senior colleagues, despite mounting evidence.

It was 'robust'? Well that's a non sequitur. Robust for WHAT? Robust for a true and fair view of the financial statements. BUT definitely NOT robust as a basis for convicting innocent SPMs.
