Game of Thrones Writers D&D ignored cast concerns over writing

proof that these writers are douches and completely ignored any input from the cast members themselves.

Even ignored complaints from people who read and loved the books and knew it was going wrong.

The actors cared more about the show than the writers.

D&D have totally trashed their reputation.

Baristan Selmy the greatest swordsman in Westeros couldn't fight and survive with 8-10 knife-wielding priests but Samwel Tarly survived the battle of Winterfell casually lying around with 1000s of white walkers.

He spoke up and D&D wanted to kill his character even more. Says all you need to know about the two pricks

The reason Varys and Littlefinger became peripheral in the later seasons is because they are the most cerebral characters on the show, something that D&D are vastly underqualified to do justice

“Dismissing him was as insulting as it was stupid”
-Tywin to Cersei regarding Barristan
-GRRM to D&D regarding Ian McElhinney

Varys, season 1: "Knows what you had for breakfast."
Varys, season 7: Doesn't know that the entire Lannister army has left Castly Rock and is marching on Highgarden.

“Which just made us wanna kill that person that much more”. How childish could a writer be? Letting his own opinions and emotions get in the way of properly writing one of the biggest shows ever and accepting criticism in order to make the best piece of media he can.

Edit: I realise now that his comment was intended as a lighthearted joke, but it still came across as douchey. And in hindsight with how the show turned out… safe to say the joke falls flat on its ass.

The fact that D&D also refused help from extra writers because they wanted to take more credit just infuriates me

Ian McElhinney seems so polite and gracious about it all. He wrote a letter, for goodness sake. How much more polite, clear, and concise can you be? The juxtaposition of that to the response of ‘lol go die’ wasn’t very classy.

They did the same thing to Stannis. Evidently Stephen Dillane was "difficult to work with" and openly expressed confusion with certain things his character was supposed to do, so they just killed him off early. Unlike Ian McElhinney, he hadn't read the books and didn't feel a lot of passion for his character, but that's even more testament to what a fantastic actor he is, because his portrayal of Stannis was compelling AF.

The final season was so bad nobody talks about the show as a whole anymore, it looks like it never existed.

"I suppose the last couple of seasons weren't my favorite" - Varys and literally every person on the planet

The fact that Littlefinger (Arguably the cleverest man in Westeros) got outwitted by two Stark lasses as easily as he did was a travesty.
Don't even get me started on the White Walkers and Night King lol

My mate who’s been an extra on GoT a couple of times told me that they spent AGES filming Ian McElhinney’s death scene as the actor was proper pissed off during the shoot and would constantly argue with the director about his death scene…I don’t blame him tbh

The epitome of privilege is to be paid richly, work with talented people on beautiful sets, and still feel an elementary level of petty passive aggression when a coworker tries to hold you accountable.

Aaron Paul managed to keep Jesse, his character, who was supposed to die in Season 1, alive for the rest of the show and he became one of the best characters in the whole show if not the best. Also, the cast was able to put a little bit of their own ideas into them (Walter White adopting the habits of the antagonists after they die seemed to be Bryan Cranstons idea) to make the characters seem deeper and more human. Not only that but the actors also got the chance to direct episodes (Bryan Cranston, Giancarlo Esposito, Rhea Seehorn).

Meanwhile D&D think they’re so good at writing that they don’t even listen to their cast, which is STACKED with actors who loved the books (Barristan Selmy), who have studied deep into their characters (Varys) and who would most definitely do a better job than them.
