Actually, the static may have been how some viewers a long way from the station saw it (before widespread cable TV) who were only able to use an antenna. Having the show broadcasted after sundown would have helped those viewers in receiving a watchable picture.

OK - I just commented on another video in which the audio from a different performance had been stuck onto the video from the Sullivan show, and I complained about that. With this one, I at first thought the audio was authentic - until the end, when John's cheeky falsetto "tee-hee" wasn't present for some reason. Not audibly, not visually either. Should have happened around 1:55. So, another fake job. Why do people keep doing this?
