It is critical to protect a Mx-5 NC with several coats of paint such as hammerite in areas that are known to rust (e.g. sill end panels, rear arches and other locations), also to coat with good quality underbody seal to prevent rust. These cars will rust to nothing if left with the factory finish underneath, particularly if you live in a country where salt is applied to the roads in the Winter.

Bloody annoying, Mazda still have not learned their lesson, my 2003 MX-5 NB was a rot box in 2010.
