The Mustangs - Yasmin

Показать описание
Fantastic instrumental track by the lads from the Strand, in the Western Cape! Not to be confused with many iterations of The Mustangs from the U.K., U.S.A., New Zealand and India, or the 60’s Jo’burg iteration, comprising of Rob Thomas on vocals, Neville Mann on guitar, John Leyton on bass, and Terry Barrington on drums.
The label states the track was composed by the brilliant band from Uitenhage, The Invaders, however The Invaders never released a track by this name. It’s worth noting the track is distinctly similar, almost note for note, with The Invaders track, “June”, (“The Wedding” on the flip side: Philips, SSP 937, 1966), also featured on the super rare French single with “Dream On” on the flip side (Philips, P 313.750 F, 1966), and on the albums, “Two Sides Of The Invaders” (Philips, PSK 3283, 1967), “The Best Of The Invaders” (Rave, BP 1026, 1970). Hence, one can surmise this may be why The Invaders were cited as composers.
The flip side, “Kongo Kwela” was composed by The Invaders. Released by The Invaders as the flip side to their 1967 single “Last Date” (Philips, SSP 955). The track also featured on the “It's Happening” 16 ⅔ RPM compilation album (Fontana, 16 TL 639, 1967), “The Best Of The Invaders” (Rave, BP 1026, 1970), and their “The Heart & Soul Of The Invaders” best of (Gallo Record Company, CDREDD 689, 2008).
The track has also been covered by other South African acts, including, Sonny And His Booi's, The Blue Ricks, The Lyceum Combo, and The Rockets, among others. (The British act, OK Jive, recoded a track “Congo Kwela” – released on the Epic label, EPC A 1934 in 1981. There is obvious similarities, however composed by Jill Desmond?...).
Look out for other releases by The Mustangs; including “Wonderful Land”/ “Miserlou” (Meteor, PR 1011), “Johny (sic) Guitar/ ? (Meteor, PR 10130), “Norwegian Wood”, with the act The Magnets, “Heatwave” on the flip side (Meteor, PR 1036).
