Being in IB is taking a toll on my health, but I’m getting by. Honestly I do see that it is helping me with time management and study skills. I’m just hoping I pass my IB exams and get good scores on my IAs and EE.

Ap is hard ib breaks people

And you won’t know if it’s gonna break you before you go in, I’ve seen smart people get ripped to shreds by the program

It’s about time management and work ethic

As an IB Senior in the US graduating this year, here are my pros and cons on the program:

pros:
- colleges practically hand you merit scholarships
- it’s easier to get into top colleges (fr, just look up acceptance rates for IB DP kids)
- the teachers are awesome (they will all give you college reccs, unless they hate you or something)
- Imo, the IB exams are generally easier as they don’t take off marks for incorrect answers, they can only give marks; also, the IAs are part of your score, so you can control what you get to some extent
- making friends is really easy since you have classes with the same people 3-4 times in a row
- it’s relatively easy to get an officer position (At my school, each club has at least one officer that’s in IB)

cons:
- depending on your state, if you don’t get your IB diploma you might not graduate high school
- if you don’t do your any of your IB things (, you don’t get your IB diploma
- it’s common to have poor mental/physical health and basically pull all nighters every night
- you’re expected to be the valedictorian, president of five clubs, take every sport known to man and get a 4.0 GPA (if you aren’t at least a club officer, then you’re behind the curve)

Another thing I would add to this, especially for people going into STEM is to skip the art class. Most schools allow you to replace the art course with a second social study or science course. For STEM, it’s an advantage to take another science imo.

i’m in a pre ib program which is setting me up to go into the ib program in 11-12th grade, while it’s hard af i kinda find it worth it because in my state i will get a full college scholarship to any in state public university just from graduating

APs are always better, IB Diploma is way more tougher, it squelches you, there are also HLs and SLs which have different components, weightages and instructional hours. Extended Essays take months based on subject and method of research.

Oh God. My mom signed me up for IB and my sister (senior) is suffering rn. I'm a real bad procrastinator and I'm a little scared.

I don’t recommend the diploma program it’s a real pain in the ass

IMO do the harder thing. Life is much harder than high school, and rather than having reality hit you like a truck you could put in your hours there in edu and have a much easier uni & work life balance for the future.

The extended essay is not completely analogous to a research paper my ee coordinator always said a just because it is good research paper does not mean it is a good EE. AND the project must cover all three areas i.e Creativity Activity And Service and all the things within them. Also as others said each class has several exams including longterm projects called IAs

AP courses are fairly difficult classes that teach the people that take them the essentials of that subject and how to do better with those essentials.

The IB is the academic equivalent of a two year cbt sesh that feels slightly less bad if you have a good teacher, but hey at least at the end of it I got to not do like 3 classes in my freshman year of college.

IB and AP are realistically, the same thing for most people. IB makes you work a bit more, but for AP I can self study and actually just learn the knowledge, take a test, and I actually know the stuff. All the IB kids in my school are too reliant on school
For learning and even with TOK don’t learn outside of school or learn how to research. The student is what matters more than AP vs IB
