Decorative Gourds on the Permaculture Homestead?

Decorative gourds have a place on the homestead. They can be dried and used as tools, instruments, cooking utensils, and for crafts. But more importantly, they can be turned into birdhouses which invite native predators of insects that could be eating your crops.
