Shankland NOT Scotland's first choice yet warns Steve Clarke

🗣️'He deserves his place this time... But I've got two other strikers who've done okay too'

Steve Clarke refuses to commit to handing Lawrence Shankland a starting spot for Scotland in the EURO 2024 squad 🤨:

Scotland National Football Team Head Coach Steve Clarke states the following when asked if Lawrence Shankland will make the Scotland squad:

"He's one of three strikers that I've got. I think people obviously up here you talk a lot about Lawrence because he's he's scoring every week. He's scoring week in week out anytime you watch Hearts play. Lawrence is a key player for them he's done very well deserves his place in the squad this time but I've got two other Strikers there I've done okay for Scotland too."

Ahead of Scotland's friendly matches at the end of the month, Steve Clarke has named his 25-man Scotland squads. Despite a few big names missing from the list, he says when they return, the decision of whether they play or not is ultimately down to him.

"We always try to protect the players. If any of the clubs have got any issues that they want to flag up, as they normally do, and then because it's friendly matches, we can be a little bit more sympathetic to club issues. But I'll pick the boys I want to pick, I'll play them as long as I want to play them, and we're looking after them."

Scotland has been well-represented across a number of leagues in Europe, which begs the question: For when Euro 2024 comes around, will there be a surprise name added to Steve Clarke's list?

"There's always opportunity, but what I can't really get my head round is this squad. You talk about the core squad; they haven't let anybody down. They've done really well for their country, and they deserve the chance to go to the Euros."

International duties will commence on Friday, the 22nd of March, as Scotland head to the Johan Cruyff Arena to take on the Netherlands.

The following Tuesday, they will host Northern Ireland here at Hampden Park.

I'm a jambo and 40yrs old we need to understand that shankland is scoring goals every week and don't get me wrong I'm loving it but it's a s...e league and he has never been tested at the top tip level and that's the difference there are miles and miles of difference playing in the spl to playing in the championship in England be realistic people
