You can’t walk down a street in Manhattan without seeing the signs saying “going out of business” or “commercial space available."

They act like they care about small businesses. The truth is they want them to go under so they can swoop in and buy them for a low, auction like price.

what the heck do you think would happen if you force businesses to stay closed? People have to eat. People have bills to pay. Meanwhile, the govt lets big companies like walmart and Amazon to stay open, rake in all the money, and then you have that Forbes article talking about the gap between the rich and the poor getting bigger. I know this video is already old and whatever already happened has happened, but I thought I feel like I have to express this. As much as I applaud the fact there were a lot of businesses that were kept essential like food stores, take out eateries, pharmacies, medical facilities, laundromats, electric/gas/internet/phone companies, certain important constructions, hardware stores, and etc., I feel there were a lot of other businesses that were left out of being essential that should have been essential like furniture stores, clothing, electronic, stationery stores, office supplies, clothing and shoe stores, limited onsite staffing in government agencies and insurance company offices, essential hair hygiene services at salons and barbershops. I will detail all of this in the next comment. Also, I just want to note that not everyone knows how to use computer to shop online and some may not feel comfortable with online shopping and it could be for legitimate reasons.

Please don't vote this mayor back in. And put laws in place regardless of political party to prevent this from happening again. Its one thing to not want get COVID, its another to prevent people from earning money and going broke and losing their family businesses, homes, investments because of "any" politicians mandates.

Household Supply Stores, Bag Stores, Clothing/Shoe Stores, Light Shops, Furniture stores like Target, 99 Cent Stores, Khol's, DSW, Marshall's, Old Navy, Ikea, Bob's Furniture, and etc. should have been opened as essential as they sell very important household items, which sometimes they can go missing or damage, they need access to buying new ones like plates, cups, utensils, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, hygiene supplies, towels, pillows, blankets, clothes, shoes, bags, containers, beds, closets, sofas, chairs, lights, and etc. And about clothes and bags, think of all of the essential workers that were going out there everyday and if their clothes or shoes or bags get damaged, they need access to buying them. Obviously, specific clothing stores selling only extravagant clothes should not have been essential as no one needs pretty dresses/suits or sexy clothes for their important well being and certainly not during the pandemic.

Electronic stores and office supply/stationery stores like Staples, P.C. Richards, and Best Buy should have been especially essential and I am the most shocked and surprised the government never thought about this during Covid-19. There was a dramatic spike of people on their computers using the internet very importantly for remote schooling/working and much more papers, pencils, pens, erasers were being used at home for all of this. The use of internet/computer, TVs, and Radios also became another way more important usage for keeping up with the Covid-19 emergency updates. If they run out of the stationery/office related supplies and if something happens to their technology, they need access to buying them, so they can do their remote schooling or work and for keeping up with the Covid-19 emergency updates and as well as for their medical online appointments with their doctors as those also became super important during the pandemic. There are also other important household appliances that people need access to buying them as well in case they break.

Hair Salons and Barbershops should have been allowed to open only just for essential hygienic hair services as haircuts and hair washing is very important to their health to avoid skin and scalp irritation and lice in their hair as certain people's hair grows out in a certain way like if it is hard or curly where hair washing is no longer enough to maintain hair hygiene when it starts getting to a certain length or width and braiding and straightening should have been an exception as essential only for those with specific curly hair textures, but anything related to hair dyeing, perming, and hair extensions should have been banned as those are not important to hair and skin scalp hygiene.

Government agencies should have been allowed to have a certain limited number of staff to be on site with a rotating schedule especially for those providing important benefit programs to certain populations for their well being to allow them to come into the office in case of any issues coming up, but with a requirement of an appointment with no more than a certain amount of people coming at a time and only if it is not resolvable over the phone call or internet.

Insurance Companies should have been allowed to be essential with a limited amount of rotating staff onsite as those are very important to people's livelihoods especially when it comes to health plans or policy plans and at times clients cannot always resolve complicated issues over the phone call or online and they need to someone live in person for the assistance. Especially since so many people were getting sick with lingering long term health problems and/or dying off as a result of Covid-19, they may have needed to change health insurance plans to get the medical services or medications needed to treat whatever new health problems came up including if it came from Covid-19 and they may need to update their life insurance policies because of Covid-19 affecting their health.

Repair shops for electronics and watches should have essential as technology can break, they need access to fixing them especially with all of the remote working and schooling being so important and they may need to replace a specific charger or an important part of an electronic device and watches are important for people to keep up with time and just grabbing your cell phone out to look at your time is not as easy as it could placed into your pockets or bag where it could take time for you to grab it and if the cell phone battery is dead and you are not at the convenience to charge your cell phone at the moment, you will not be able to see the time, so a watch is a very convenient way to just turn your wrist easily to look at the time and think about all those essential workers that were busy doing deliveries or saving people or working in food stores, they cannot just grab their cell phone to look at time as easily as if they have their watch on. Stores selling watches should have been included in the essential category

Businesses like Jewelry, flowers, art stores, entertainment and tourist attractions, nail salons, makeup stores, theaters, museums, party supply stores, and etc. obviously were not important to people's health and their daily living needs, so those should have been left out of being essential.
