This is not related to Black Panther but this is who the Dora Milaje are based off, the real warriors of the kingdom of Dahomey. Some of my oldest ancestors are from this kingdom as are many Haitians and Caribbeans descend from them. Proud to have the blood of revolutionaries.

First of all I thought it was the female version of black panther..

Got wrecked in every single battle. Hundreds of them died in one battle where the french lost only 6. Enslaved other Africans. Lost both wars and only fought because the men were already dead. This will make Braveheart look like the most accurate historical movie ever made.

"The slave trade has been the ruling principle of my people. It is the source of their glory and wealth. Their songs celebrate their victories and the mother lulls the child to sleep with notes of triumph over an enemy reduced to slavery."-King Ghezo

Are they going to talk about the Kingdom of Dahomey being a massive part of the slave trade, Running an entire economy off slave labor?

This is based upon the history of the "Dahomey Amazon warriors" who were routinely used to capture other Africans from opposing tribes and nations, who were then either sold to Europeans or kept as slaves in the kingdom of Dahomey which grew rich and powerful as a result of their selling of slaves....and where hundreds of these captured slaves were ritualistically murdered each year during the King's celebrations.
This film is essentially taking the history of African peoples murdering and capturing their own people, and turning it into "woke" propaganda, where no doubt the enemy will be white colonialists and the Dahomey warriors will probably NOT be represented as slave capturers or murderers.
I can only shake my head at the level of nonsense and disregard for history in the name of moral grandstanding.

As a highly militaristic kingdom constantly organised for warfare, it captured children, women, and men during wars and raids against neighboring societies and sold them into the Atlantic slave trade in exchange for European goods. Other remaining captives became slaves in Dahomey where they worked on royal plantations and were routinely mass executed in large-scale human sacrifices during the festival celebrations known as the Annual Customs of Dahomey.

This tribe was about as righteous as the Confederate South.

Imagine making a movie glorifying a kingdom (Dahomey) that sold its own into slavery but leaving that out. And i speak as a Haitian American whose been doing research on his own ancestors way before this was announced. And i gotta say this is so disingenuous. But of course a lot of black people will eat this up not realizing these people are the reason why you landed here in America unwillingly. Because slavery became the wealthy economy of Dahomey. Please do the research for yourself before claiming its "fake news". You're being lied to and denied your history once again.

“Some things are worth fighting for”

She’s talking about their slave trade. Literally Dahomey went to war with the British Navy to keep the slave trade.

Unfortunately this isn’t historically accurate . They played a big part in the Atlantic Trade by helping the Europeans capture other tribes .

"The Europeans wish to conquer us"

Honey, the Kingdom of Dahomey usually had very good relations with Europe .The Kings of Dahomey and the Kings of Portugal enjoyed a personal mail correspondence and sent each other good wishes .In fact, the main reason that Britain had military engagements with Dahomey (And this is coming from someone who DESPISES the English) was because Britain had abolished slavery and sent out anti-Slaver patrols .

Also, the Kingdom of Dahomey had Human Sacrifices and an entire ritual centred around making the Slaves forget about their Family and Culture .

You don't need to romanticize a slave empire to make African culture/history seem beautiful and interesting.

The Dahomey Kingdom became known to European traders at this time as a major source of slaves in the slave trade at Allada and Whydah. King Agaja, grandson of Houegbadja, came to the throne in 1718 and began significant expansion of the Kingdom of Dahomey.

- She is a woman.
- She is black.
- She is a king (not a queen).
Perfect ingredients for a movie in 2022.

The British wanted to end the slave trade. The Dahomey captured woman, .children and men (black) as slaves and traded them for goods to the British. They also had human sacrifices with these slaves. I bet they won't include that in the movie....

“Based on true story”

The true story: got complete wiped out, and only 6 Frenchmen died.

Who thinks this movie is going to completely ignore the fact that the Dahomey kingdom practiced slavery and human sacrifice and often sold their own people to Europeans?
