Come on. The reason why there is a shortage of people to work in those service jobs is because for two years those jobs were not there reliably because of COVID. People moved onto other ways of making a living. The new jobs most likely pay better, and with inflation, who wants to make less?

The recession has already started, many people loosing their jobs as their firms are unable to cope with the market, inflation going up by 1% per month that will put a huge dent on people's daily lives. The wages are still what it was 3 years ago without an increment.

Now this is how the start of a recession looks like and this will continue for sometime. If it continues for more than 3 years it will poised towards a depression of 1929. Better to increase the wages now for the people so its just a recession rather than a depression.

Larry Summers wants even higher immigration??? Has he thought of its consequences on our roads, schools, health care expenses and other issues because people in this country, Americans as well as foreign-born individuals, drive/pollute/need housing/health care while the younger folks need education. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that the U.S. had about 355 million people last year while it had some 205 million in 1970. If immigration -- immigrants and their U.S.born children -- continues, within the lifetimes of today's teenagers, the U.S. could well have half of China's current population. Our infrastructure is extremely overburdened while food shortages in the near future are real possibilities. So Summers should think of ALL the consequences of immigration/population growth to avert a chaotic USA where the only 0.1% win.
