The 2025 Porsche GT3 Was Revealed - Is It Too Soon To Be Excited?

I just finished watching Porsche's reveal event for 992.2 GT3 and I'll I can really say is... What happened? Porsche didn't tell us anything significant about this car! They didn't say anything about the new engine! They didn't share one single piece of performance information with us. No 0-60 times, no top speed, no lap times, no nurburgring times, Nothing! With the 992.1 GT3 porsche was boasting the nurburgring lap time long before they ever revealed the car. Now they're not telling us a thing.
With this reveal event they were just like "yeah we updated the seats and shortened the gear ratios, thanks for watching." At the 991.1 reveal event there was so much excitement and good energy that was completely absent from this event - and that has got me a little concerned.
No, don't get me wrong, the new GT3 is still a great car, it's got most of the qualities we were hoping for, and I'm still going to try to get an allocation for one, but after watching that reveal event, I feel like... I'm still waiting for the car to be revealed. And it just seemed like Porsche wasn't all that proud of the new GT3, certainly not the way they were when they revealed the last GT3.
But as I said, the new GT3 does have a lot of good qualities, So let's get into what's different about the new car, what's better about the new car, and what's worse.
So the update most focused on in the reveal event was gear ratios that are not 8% shoter - and that's a good thing, but the fact that the new gear ratios were what porsche was most excited about, is a little concerning.
The event also focused on the updated bucket seats that have a removable headrest to give you more room for a helmet, and the new seats are also foldable.
The new car has a redesigned front fascia that's styled like the 992.2 carrara fascia and also features side blades, that I don't think look great but at least they look better than the blades on the hybrid GTS.
There is also a redesigned rear fascia that features larger outlets on the sides and a more defined lip that fits over the rear diffuser.
you can also get magnesium wheels. They look exactly like the old wheels, but they are now magnesium. And you can now get the GT3 Touring with rear seats, And one thing I found in the photos that porsche didn't mention in the reveal event is this little knob here for the ignition, inplace of the start button.
But those were really the only updates that they mentioned.

So the good news about the new GT3 is that it does have a naturally aspirated engine, but there was nothing else mentioned about the engine other than it is naturally aspirated.  A manual transmission will also be available with the GT3 touring, they didn't say if it was available with the standard GT3, but they did mention that it is abailable with the touring, twice, which leads me to believe that it might not be available with the standard GT3.
Now there's also a few changes that are unwelcome with the new GT3. As expected there's no tachometer dial, and the interior is basically a warmed over base carrera interior covered in racetec, and a few carbon bits here and there. And the car just doesn't look nearly as good as the last GT3, and I'm kind of afraid to learn how much it weighs and how much horsepower it has, or doesn't have but I'm trying to remain optimistic until we hear more.
So really what happened today is that Porsche revealed the new GT3 without actually revealing it. They didn't tell us anything about the new engine, they didn't tell us anything about the new aerodynamics, they didn't tell us how much the car weighs or how much it costs - and I'm really hoping that this was out of sheer laziness and not because the new GT3 offers lackluster performance. But as porsche releases new information about this car, I will be sure to share that with you.

Because 90% of the engineering work on this GT3 is to deal with all the regulations while maintain the performance

And this guy told us that we should sell our 992.1's before the .2 was revealed 😆

I think you're overreacting...at least to this point. Porsche has made it's name on marginal changes from year to year. Sometimes it's nearly dramatic but usually not. I think this was more of a "Sneak Peak" than anything else. Specs will be dropped soon. Cheer up, man.

The .1 is a completely new generation, a new chassis, interior, etc but with the previous gen engine. The .2 is historically merely a refresh with some changes to the front and rear fascia, a few interior tweaks, and the highlight being an engine upgrade. In the past, when Porsche wasn’t so hamstrung by emissions regulations, they would bore out the engine by .2 liters, in some cases increase the redline, and with the GT3, it would inherit the previous gen GT3 RS engine. In this case, that’s exactly what happened, but instead of an increase in power, they needed to detune the RS engine and add 2 more catalytic converters (4 total) for essentially a break even point in horsies… it’s not sexy to highlight that for the first time they’ve been unable to increase displacement, or horsepower from the previous gen because of emissions regulations - but look at it this way, and Porsche can’t say this, but an aftermarket exhaust should be incredibly potent on this gen GT3, and you’re essentially getting an S/T engine and I wouldn’t be shocked if a cat-back exhaust (with 2 high flow cats) doesn’t increase power to the 540hp range and with the hotter cams it’ll howl! If you add the lightweight package to the Touring, and purchase the S/T clutch/flywheel as others have already done (for $11K), you have essentially an S/T without the $300K ADM (over sticker market adjustment). Coming from an S/T owner, I think that’s amazing value for this GT3

Seems like you were wrong on the 992.1 values tanking. After this the Gen 1 cars will stabilize and go up in value. No lap times as it actually slower. And let’s see how it sounds with additional particulate filters and 4 cats.

I dont like new Porsche's. I like real guages, real key and ignition, a visible engine, and a real porsche badge on the front- not a sticker. At least they got the last one right.

I wish they get rid of the flat panel instrumentation screens, Please bring back the analog Speedo and tach.

I agree with you. I had the privilege to put 27, 000 miles in my 991.2 GT3 in the first 3 years and 15, 000 miles in the first year of my 992 GT3. I was waiting anxiously for Nurburing lap time, revving more than 9k rpm. I didn’t expect that major improvements are going to be the seats. Come on!

One of the most interesting thing is the fact that the gear ratios are shorter, and that we have now for kats. Removing some of the kats or using sport ones may increase the power to 530 hp and considering the new gear rations the .2 GT3 can potentially be much faster than the gen1

This is not a new car. It's a revision. Porsche is all about incremental improvements. This is not Ferrari where they're continually restyled (and made less pretty, frankly).

Be happy this car exists and still has a manual option!

This is a massive win. They did everything they needed to do by incorporating actual owners feedback. Let’s celebrate the fact they didn’t go Hybrid and PDK only. The fact they incorporated learnings from the S/T is epic, this could have gone a completely different direction. Porsche knows exactly what their customers want and how to retain its identity and legacy. This is a mid-cycle refresh, enjoy this generation while it lasts and get over it.

Porsche raised the price by a lot to flush out the flippers. What’s your take on the major price increase?

Manual also available for the GT3 wing'ed

You must be misinformed, because Andreas Preuninger specified very clearly that the manual transmission is available on both the winged GT3 and the Touring. As for the engine it has benefited of several improvements and modifications in order to comply with the ever stricter regulations, and the suspensions have been tuned according to both 992.1 GT3 RS and ST specifications. So sorry, but what are you moaning about ? 😅

Much more available on Porsche site and other interviews. The predictions of plummeting 992.1 GT3s appears premature as the 992.2 jumped the list price $40k to $222, 500!

I felt the exact same way! I was like...they phoned it in. Porsche left all the good footage to be done by YouTubers.

The shorter gearing was done to make up for the lower torque and heavier weight you have to spend more to get the same or less. 992.1 is the car to have.
