Bodyboarding WEDGE - August 17 - RAW FOOTAGE (Tanner McDaniel, Craig Whetter)

HERE IT IS, RAW FOOTAGE!
This was by far the biggest I've ever seen Wedge get. I know there's been bigger days, but this was enormous! In this video I have just bodyboarding (and one clip of a shortboarder, which I had to use because it was part of the same clip, and that wave was huge). I'll be posting the raw footage later this week of the bodyboarding and the shortboards. There were some incredible watermen out there like Tanner McDaniel, and Craig Whetter that were sending it to the moon!

Holy fuck 1:56! That's how I almost got killed there. I was right at the lip when the back wave hit. I got rolled and went face first down with the lip and ended up going face first into the sand. I can still hear my neck cracking under the water. Ended up in a 2 wave hold down. When I finally came up the lifeguard was already in the water and the patrol boat was shortly rounding the jedi from the harbor area. I guess when I hit the sand my legs and fins were sticking out of the water. They said they thought they were coming for a body recovery. It was a sizable day like this and the wave i was on was probably like that. I was so done for the day after that. Being 44, I can laugh at my 16 year old self now. Wasn't very funny then.

Last time i was at the WEDGE was in the late 60's, still the same. at that time it was body womping, an going left was a definite sand grinder 🤦‍♂️. To old for that now, Guy's have fun !!!

Great video...mesmerized by watching one sweet ride after another. Fond memories of getting my face slammed into the sand after going over the falls in 1983. Those were the days.

This break is so chaotic and raw. This is what the ocean looks like whenever I dream about it. Towering waves that bow to no man but then right when I think I'm about to be crushed I can breathe under water.
