Just a Man - A Dungeons and Dragons Inspired Cover from Epic the Musical

I have returned a bit to Danni's story, but this time it's a flashback! Three years before the beginning of the game, the guild she was a part of had a mission in the main city of our setting. It was supposed to be an easy in and out, but something went horribly wrong, and a devastating fire erupted in the city... many lives were lost, including the caretakers of another Player Character..

I've used this song (the original, that is) for part of the story of one of my own characters. He grew up so desperate for his father's approval that he blindly obeyed his orders and became a loyal soldier, despite the fact that his father was a violent tyrant. Then his father ordered a village razed and he faced a moral dilemma because he didn't want to harm innocents and ended up being forced to watch as everyone was killed and the village was burned. He saw a young boy that had managed to stay hidden and avoided the carnage that reminded him of his younger and more innocent self, and covered him with a cloth so he wouldn't have to look at the destruction before leaving with his father and the other warriors who had destroyed the village. That was the start of his arc to breaking free from the toxic beliefs he'd been taught. EPIC music is so good for tragic tales lol

I um...wow this was beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time. As someone who plays D&D so much with my friends there are times I look back on events that someone my characters have done or caused that had repercussions they couldn't change. This song reminded me of one of the ones that really haunted my choices as an early D&D player.
