Best of good luck learning how to hammer left handed.

When I started alongside a blacksmith, my hammer control wasn't worth beans.
The smith I was working with gave me a couple of pounds and some scrap lumber and practice using that. It took a while but after bending a lot of nails and sending a lot flying off into space, I got so I could hammer a 2 and a half inch nail, fully seated in one blow. Then he took me back and began actually teaching me something about blacksmithing. Good luck

Pretty impressive Dan. Give it time and you will be using your left hand like your right. My old man had RSI in his RH and had to start using the mouse with his LH. Awkward at first, but then becomes habit. Keep it up, really enjoy your vids.

seems like your aim is improved from the last video though, I'm glad to see you're sticking with it, keep it up. Might have to go back to using basic stuff that you were past using with your right hand, like it you rarely use your horn and such. treat the left hand like you're learning it all over again i'd imagine. Anyhow it's awesome that you're able to do this left handed as well. I'm interested to see what you make next.

Trying anything with the left hand can be tough, but it can be done.

Hi Dan. Just from observation....You may want to use the lighter hammer at first. This may help with rhythm and conditioning of your arm, slowly. Once you discipline that left arm a little, then move to the heavy hitter.
damage that left arm, at first, like I always do...sit down and have a couple of beers and cry... and wait for the lame ass thing to heal. Have a great day!

Nice job, before you know it it will be second nature.Try using black hockey tape instead of electrical tape on hammer handles, more control and easier to hang on to.

Not to bad Dan. As soon as you get some muscle memory in your left arm it'll come a lot easier. At the moment it should be you getting over the mental hump of switching hands than a physical one.

Keep up with the Left-handed 12oz (or however big your typical Canadian beer is) curls and that left arm will be in shape in no time!

a heavier hammer works good for learning, alot harder to mess up work. Its like bladesmithing, just let the hammer drop on its own. Try a forward weighted hammer, like a dogs head, cutler, etc, and it will feel easier on the arm.

Dan, did you set up a rheostat or an air gate on your bathroom fan blower? The forge looked like it was working well for you indoors on that video... The fire looked a lot more manageable than when you had it going full roar in your previous vid.

coal transfer to coke during the hot fire when it burns out the oil and sulfur.
