It is absolutely AMAZING how informed she is on ACEs, toxic stress, and neuroscience. Entering into this field has felt so natural for me, but listening to Dr. Burke-Harris has helped me understand that I have only scratched the surface. I know I listened to her about a year ago, but it never gets old. Listening to her has made my entire Sunday afternoon. From the TED Talk to youtube interviews. I cannot wait to be apart of any initiatives she has going on. I'm SO ready!!!! I feel like all my research has led me to her. She REALLY gets it as far as solutions and Health Equity...and the importance of Behavioral Science, specifically in African American communities and mental health. What leadership! Newsome outdid himself with this choice right here. Excellence.

I just have to say that I find it very disrespectful as a woman raised in a black community, when any one speaks on issues of the African American Community and the response to how to resolve the conflicts in that community is always another community and their disparities. What is that about? I just had a Caucasian woman do the same exact thing in another forum. It's like saying "all lives matter" when discussing that black lives matter. Its very annoying and highly disrespectful. WE know that the majority of the population in California is Latino and immigrant, the interviewer didn't have to highlight that tidbit about herself as if to block or divert away from the community that was spotlighted to discuss if the 1st US Surgeon General who is clearly black/a woman of color is stating that she isn't seeing a high response like she wants from the black community and what she thinks are the efforts possible to see more efficacy centered around that issue. I just had to point that out as a woman of color myself.... Latinos and White people, please take your diversity training to the next level with White fragility centered around racism with the progressive efforts from Dr. Robin DiAgngelo...cuz i'm sick and tired of the overt racism in times like these... we don't need it. Especially not on these pointed issues that seem to want to include people of color namely the BLACK/African American community rather than ostracize it.

If she really was serious about reducing adverse childhood experience, she would be calling for an end to the circumcision of baby boys.
