In this video, we will download and process the free Global Surface Water Data Set, using QGIS. If you have not yet seen Part 1, I encourage you to do so.

The QGIS skills we will cover here apply to any raster dataset. We will be practising the following key skills which you need to know, if you want to work with raster data:

• Setting up a Virtual Raster for data processing
• Merging & Clipping raster data sets
• Editing raster symbology
• Saving the output as a permanent raster
• Working with QGIS Layer Style files to control raster symbology
• and finally - Creating a map from a template and
• Printing it to PDF

This video is part of the online QGIS 101 training course.

Great video prof. Thank you so much. I never wanted to learn ArcGIS due to its complex license procedures but it's hard to find tutorials on QGIS, so I had thought of shifting to ArcGIS from QGIS but video series like this motivates me to stay at QGIS itself. Please continue making videos on the application of GIS in the field of water resources.
P.S. If anyone is confused about getting the 'extent' file, you can rather create it yourself by going to the 'processing toolbox' and typing 'extent'.

Very nicely explained. Will you also be covering these same topics using the GDAL library in python at some point ?

Hello, What is the difference between a "normal" view and a materialized view? Why can a materialized view make more sense with raster data?

hello, can this be done for another part of the world, for example for Romania?

Dear Andreas, excellent explanation and your efforts that exerted to do that are quite appreciated. But the method that you used for downloading data just for one year (2019) is not available for the long term. Therefore I am trying to used python scripts to get it. Many thanks.
