I was delighted to discover Al recently as I have waited a long time to meet someone in this country so equally fascinated by the baritone saxophone and its history as myself.
Having begun his career as a busy tenor player on the soul scene, Al was drawn to the baritone and has grown into an impressive and full-throated specialist on the instrument who is totally steeped in the the great legacies of Harry Carney, Bruce Johnstone, Joe Temperley and Ronnie Cuber. Listeners will be able to hear the influence of all these giants and more on this, Alex’s first quartet recording and I am looking forward to hearing a lot more from this young man.
