I’m hoping that the power is off. I just can’t work in a panel without my black Milwaukee cut resistant gripping gloves. They’re shear enough to pick up small parts and protect me from cuts and scratches. I also like the extra protection from shock. I know that they’re not safety gloves, but it doesn’t hurt to have a little extra protection.

Seimens now calls it Boltshield 140 and is a little smaller and has a black face. The old version in your video is no longer made because Boltshield 140 is the replacement.

Just saw you on Stud Pack's channel - How'd you like the Texas heat? I'm now a subscriber!

Type 2 SPDs are great, but i hate the insane prices these manufacturers charge. They are about $5 in MOVs, some LEDs and a plastic box. Even basic models now go for over $100. They're marked up 20x+.

I hope you noticed the panel cover screw on the bottom left was right in front of the surge protector. When you put the panel cover on that screw would have penetrated the device.... Details

One day later...you will learn how to use a ferrule connector for that stranded wires.

Can a surge protector be placed on a knob and tube wired home? Or do I have to rewire home first with 14/2? Thanks.

As a service Electrician, I have found a large percentage of the breakers that the surge devices are connected to tripped when I open the panel for something unrelated. Has anybody else been finding this? If the breaker is tripped the audible alarm does not work either.

When you install it along the edge like this, doesn’t it risk contact with the cover screw?

I’m so jealous of the panel location. Wow - much better than my garage.

First thing I had installed on my new house. I love it. Can't imagine not having it on my panel.

Can you do an inline surge protector? I struggle a little but to understand how a surger protector protects the whole system.

Locating the breaker as close as possible to incoming power is GOOD...but not CRITICAL due to the extremely large gauge ( or "ampacity"...if you will) of the bus bar. However, keeping the leads from the FS140 to the breakers SHORT is indeed critical, as every inch added that is not necessary for the the voltage threshold of protection ( the VPR rating). Think of VPR this way, it is the LIMIT of surge allowed to pass through. If you bought the FS140 with 600 volts of pass-through allowance during a increase it to 700 or 1000 because of too many inches of additional lead length? locating the FS140 close to the incoming main breaker is GOOD, but not CRITICAL. The buss is enormous in comparision to breaker location and wire leads used....and the location of the protected elements (TV, laptops etc)....are VERY far away with VERY SMALL gauge wire in electricity will take the path of least resistance and the long runs of to the equipment being protected helps in this regard. the leads 1 twist per inch, or even laying them tightly together in a straight line using zip will improve the impendence and will give you improved performance just like short leads will. All this confirmed not only by what I thought I with talks with Siemens CS. Cheers.
