Live and Work in Paradise - Cayman Islands FAQs

I get asked a lot of questions about living in the Cayman Islands. These are the questions I get the most as a resident, as well as those I think you should be asking.

My previous video, "FAQs about Living In & Moving To the Cayman Islands," was released over four years ago. In that time I've been asked many questions. Most frequently, "How much money can I make?" But also questions on where to live, transport, what the job market is like and getting permanent residence. I wanted to take this opportunity to answer those most asked and also show off our beautiful island with every shot.

If you have more questions I'll answer them in the comments below.

This has been a big eye opener.

Watching from SA where pay is lower and tax is high, you see the large pay cheque numbers but don't realise that it does not necessarily result in a lifestyle change because of the cost of living.

A South African earning a fraction of the Cayman salary and paying tons in tax can still afford to own stunning property and spend comfortably on luxuries like eating out.

Actually a very good video. Full of information. And to those who bring their kids here, please keep in mind private school fees and health insurance for your kids. Both of these expenses calculated to $100k for me, for 1 child

Worth watching till the end! Great Work! As a creator myself, I can imagine the level of film making and editing this video must have required. Rooster crowing at 1:17 was something that all residents can relate to 😉

Great video! Question: During the 8 years of residence, is it still tax free?

Great video! You mention the widely used phrase that the Cayman's are "The most expensive country in the world". I get that if you are just looking at retail pricing but is that still true if you are talking about actual buying power? Specifically, as an American about 40% of my paycheck goes to taxes and in addition I pay about 10% for Sales Tax on all retail items that I purchase. Even my gas price is currently higher than in the Cayman's (average of $6.38/gal vs $6.27/gal). Since the Caymans has no income tax, sales/VAT tax, property tax, etc... doesn't that mean that my actual buying power is far greater because I'm keep a SUBSTANTIALLY greater amount of my income?

Hi Srizzil, thank you so much for your efforts in producing this awesome and informative video. Based on your experience what will you say is the minimum salary a single man without kids should make to live comfortably in the Cayman Islands?
