"GPUs are being increasingly embraced by the HPC community as an effective way of considerably reducing execution time by accelerating significant parts of their application codes. However, despite their extraordinary computing capabilities, the adoption of GPUs in current HPC clusters may present certain negative side effects, such as the increasing acquisition costs and power consumption. We show how, by using rCUDA over a high performance interconnection, as the one provided by the new Mellanox Connect IV network adapters, the overheard of remote GPU virtualization is reduced to negligible values, thus making this approach even more appealing."
