This gets sadder when you learn more about the characters.
First off. El Cid was exiled by the king of Spain. In a battle, the king of Spain thought El Cid died, but instead he lived and fought another.
Ofcourse this is a lie. They made a wooden armor for him under his clothes and put him on his horse. He was dead but it seemed as if he was alive.
