jhipster is a development platform to generate, develop, and deploy spring boot + angular/react/vue web applications and spring microservices. as of my last update in october 2023, jhipster 8 is the latest version. this tutorial will guide you through the process of getting started with jhipster 8, including installation, project generation, and running your application.

prerequisites

before you start using jhipster, make sure you have the following installed on your machine:

step 1: install jhipster

you can install jhipster globally using npm. open your terminal and run the following command:

```bash
npm install -g generator-jhipster
```

step 2: create a new directory for your project

navigate to the directory where you want to create your project and create a new folder:

```bash
mkdir my-jhipster-app
cd my-jhipster-app
```

step 3: generate your application

run the jhipster generator:

```bash
jhipster
```

you will be prompted with a series of questions to configure your application. here’s a brief overview of some common prompts:

1. **application type**: choose between monolithic application, microservice application, gateway, or other options.
2. **authentication type**: choose the authentication mechanism (e.g., jwt, oauth2, etc.).
3. **sql or nosql database**: select the type of database you want to use (e.g., sql with mysql/postgresql or nosql like mongodb).
