On the front lines with Ukrainian troops as tensions escalate at the border with Russia

Ukrainian troops are being met with heavy artillery at the front lines of the conflict in eastern regions near the border with Russia. Fears are growing that Moscow could launch a full-scale invasion. CBS News foreign correspondent Holly Williams spent time with Ukrainian troops and joins "CBS News Mornings" to discuss the latest.

The NATO pact in 2021 has 30 member countries who asked to join the alliance and had to be voted on by the members to join. At the height of the “Cold War” the Warsaw pact had 8 members who were forced to join by the former USSR. The very reason the former members of the USSR, who are now independent countries, ask to join the NATO alliance is being shown by Russia by their belligerence and aggression against an independent country. If Russia wanted to defuse the Ukrainian Russian separatist conflict in Ukraine, they could allow the ethnic Ukrainian Russians to move back into Russia if they don‘t want to live under Ukrainian rule. Russia has more then enough land in their country and doesn’t need to take lands from Ukraine. Democratic countries have a right to chose and not have a dictatorial country ban them from choosing who they wish to associate with. When the Ethiopian Jews were being persecuted in Ethiopia the Israelis didn’t send a so called “Peace” keeping force to attack the non-Jews in Ethiopia, they began airlifting out the Ethiopian Jews to Israel. Under the old USSR, ethnic Russian enclaves where established in conquered areas to cause disunity with the local population against the USSR’s central government. These old USSR ethnic Russian enclaves are where the political disruptions are being generated. Russia can occupy small areas of ethnic Russian speaking enclaves in Ukraine near the boarder on the East and the South. But, not the whole country since the rest of Ukraine speaks Ukrainian and are not ethnic Russians. When the USSR fell, all the former ethnic non-Russian members left Russia and formed their own ethnic country.

If war is unavoidable Ukraine might want to think tacking the first shot. Really sad. 🇺🇸 is behaving unamerican. Instead of invading 🇮🇶 for wmd 🇺🇸 protect democracy
