Other than all the repeat items in the boxes, the fact that Illumicrate utilizes primarily debut authors was my biggest gripe. The Ride or Die theme has been used before.

I canceled all my book subscriptions and have only bought one book since April. It had just become an expensive obsession. The book I bought was the gorgeous edition of A Study In Drowning that has bookshelves printed on the page edges. Now that publishers have caught on to the need to make books look pretty, it's bound to cut into subscription sales. I think Fourth Wing was the tipping point in the book publishing world. Oh God, not another plastic mug from Illumicrate. That's EXACTLY why I canceled my subscription. I've thrown out two of them.

Totally agree about Owlcrate and their spoiler cards! I miss them so much! If they want to save money, they could have just gotten rid of the booklet and kept the spoiler card. Still less going to the printers and in the box, but still have the item list, the theme and the pretty artwork for those who collected it!

For your sis-in-law, how about a visual dictionary book? Usually found in the children's section, but tons of pictures, tons to look at. Guinness Book of Records is another picture heavy one or even art books-if she has a favorite interest, I bet you could find some coffee table-esque book about it. Gives her something to look at without needing to be able to read/comprehend the words yet she can totally tell someone what the book is about.

I did enjoy seeing the OC winter box. It's 100% better than last year's advent calendar. That being said...so many items they've done multiple times before! Don't get me wrong, I'd love the blanket, liked the dragon phone holder, and the wax melt thing was completely new. But I swear they do beanie hats every year. They've done the phone holder, the blanket, the tablet sleeve before. I really do think it was a good box as other than the hat, I'd get use out of everything in there, but is it wrong for me to say I'm getting bored of them? It's definitely a reason I switched to the book only (though I did upgrade for Nov so I could get the planner-just made more financial sense then ordering it separately).

6:18 I think OC should bring their spoiler cards back! Their cards were one of the reasons I love their boxes. I don't like digital...and don't want to have to go on my phone when opening a box. It's a bummer

That was quite the haul! I got the Christmas OwlCrate box and I still haven’t opened it 😂 I want to take pics for IG and I’ve been too busy after work to do it. Glad I got to see what’s in it though 🎄

I got the Unplugged box a couple days ago and loved it! It's my first time ordering from them, but it won't be the last. The "high lords and wing leaders" sticker was my favorite in the bonus pack. Coincidentally it comes at a perfect time since I just read ACOTAR and ACOMAF for the first time and started Fourth Wing this week. December has already been busy, lol. ETA: The candle smells like Vick's Vapo-Rub mixed with men's cologne to me. My husband loves it. 😕

The books are gorgeous this month. I will definitely buy the Teller of Small Fortunes, but it's not a priority right now (there is a lot of listings and they're cheap-ish). Same with "The last hour between worlds". Cheap-ish and plenty of listings. I just need to wait for my paycheck.

I wasn't interested in the winter box, but I managed to get the High Fantasy mystery box! It should come tomorrow. I just got the Erebor and Gondor bowls today (I got the Mordor one from a reseller when it came out). I will update how I like it in an edit. (also, lol, the customs called me to ask if I know what is in the package).

I also just ordered December YA book+ items from Owlcrate. Hopefully there will be no problems with it coming here (EU did some new law and now companies need to have a representative in EU or something, and a lot of smaller subscribtions are stopping shipping to EU),

I skipped my Nov "combo" FL sub, but after watching this, managed to find the YA box for a decent(ish) price on aftermarket, sooo there you go, so much for saving money. 😂😂 To be fair though, ever since I dumped the full box about two years ago I haven't looked back or bought a single thing on second market until this one. I just love putting the money towards TWO BOOKS so much more, but this box was a good one! Love the adorable Xmas Owlcrate box, too! I wonder if OC ever thought about how they get less connective exposure to their box contents (for their future store sales) because YouTubers are usually never motivated enough to scan their codes. Hmm. 😜
