Historic launches: Ares I-X launch

Показать описание
In the year 2009 with date Wednesday october 28, at 15:30 UTC, the Ares I rocket lifted off from LC-39B, Cape Canaveral SFS, Florida, USA, on a test flight to check numerous proofs of concepts for the next generation of launchers from NASA, destined to carry astronauts to the International Space Station as part of the Constellation program.
NASA planned to use Ares I to launch Orion, the spacecraft intended for NASA human spaceflight missions after the Space Shuttle was retired in 2011.
The flight was intended as a test for the first stage, being the 2nd stage a mockup, as well as the Orion spacecraft. The launcher completed its objectives successfully.
The Constellation program, including Ares I, was cancelled by former U.S. president Barack Obama.
NASA eventually evolved what they were building on for Ares and created the Artemis program that we know today, developing SLS to carry the Orion capsule for human exploration beyond Earth.
