What is a Moka pot? It’s a stovetop coffee maker created in 1933 for Alfonso Bialetti, hence the well-renowned name.

Above the water chamber is a coffee basket, where the ground coffee is placed. The coffee basket of the Moka pot holds the coffee grounds and has many tiny holes on the base. These incredibly small holes allow steam to rise and begin to extract all those tasty flavours.
The filter screen sits above the coffee basket which allows the brewed coffee to rise but not the grounds. The pressure created from the water chamber forces water upwards and out of the tunnel running through the centre of the device.
This then results in two spouts flowing freshly brewed coffee into the upper chamber. Once bubbling is heard, the extraction process is complete, your espresso coffee is ready.
