Since Pokemon Red & Blue were released for the Game Boy, Pokemon has become such an incredible franchise that’ll always have a sweet spot in our hearts. With over 500 Pokemon and counting, the franchise has continuously grown beyond belief. While the original 150 Pokemon seem like a thing of the past, they’re still our favorite and clearly Nintendo’s favorite as well. With Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! on the horizon, we think it’s time to dive behind the scenes of Pokemon to see where the developers got their ideas for some of these pockets monsters.

Most Pokemon are adorable creatures. Sure, some of them look like the spawn of Satan, but overall, they’re really cute pocket monsters. Since many Pokemon look like creatures you might find in the wild, we thought it would be interesting to see which real-life animals some Pokemon are based off of.
