tips for the settings
1- set the combo settings to free: Changing it to "free" allows you to change targets during the combo using the left stick. This allows you to more easily attack a group of enemies.
2- set battle camera distance to 3: this solves most problems with the camera allowing you to see the attack text from the enemies and boss before the attack animations Begin.
3- change target Lock change to directional buttons: it's allows to rotate the camera when Lock on, without Changing the target

The thing I hate the most is that “dodge” isn’t actually a dodge. You still get hit mid “dodge” 🤦‍♂️

1:40 “As soon as you start that spell or ability, swap over to a new character”
This is a great tip. I’ve found in the demo that you can even switch from Cloud mid-combo to Barret to charge his gun during Cloud’s slower Operator mode 3rd strike, then switch back to Cloud for the 4th and 5th hit.
Edit: I just watched another great video from user YouTube user 8a6y
Here a few things mentioned that I didn't realize:
- Dodging slows your ATB charge
- When switching from Punisher to Operator, use that swing that comes out to continue a combo
- Switch stances to end the Braver animation earlier
- Charge gun to end spell animation earlier
- Some enemies pressured by certain attacks, not damage
- Some enemies pressured by accumulated damage, not attack type
- The things that apply pressure are different than the things that build stagger
- Triangle abilities during Staggered fill the ATB gauge much faster

Tifa's uppercut smoothly transitions into her dropkick, she'll initiate it even if she's still mid-air at the time.

Having played through the game early and learning everything the hard way first-hand, I can confirm this is a solid video

I didn't use Barret much in the original but in this he's a very useful character in harder battles. Being able to attack and cure from further is great.

Why not using early enemies display instead of spoiling later ones?

Had to listen instead of watch to avoid spoiling the beautiful imagery.

Why nobody mentioned that you can use your battle environment to your advantage like hiding behind a container to avoid heavy damage or when you focusing on healing parties safely. The combat system is way more dynamic than I thought... love this!

Excellent video! Thanks for uploading.. this game just keeps getting better the more I progress through it and in this lock-down there have been many days where I have just played the game for an entire day with a few short breaks lol.

This game is a lot tougher than I expected it to be. But Im going to master the hell out of it because of how awesome it is, and this is my first played FF game ever.

You should have added “dodge roll has no I-frames”

Got it but haven't started playing it. On normal can you run through it or do you need to level grind at places? Is levelling up very different to the original?

'' The game combat has no depth and is only button mashing '' is something I've heard constantly from people who played the demo.

Lol they were so wrong.

I love this combat system. Analyze, adapt, destroy.
Only fights I didn't like much were Reno and Rude, mostly Rude. Didn't have his elemental weakness equipped, and the dude just does not care. Attacking? He'll super-armor and combo you. Guarding? Command grab. Dodge roll? He attacks again and hits you anyway. I'm all for having to adapt and learn, but didn't seem like there was any correct answer besides "have the right magic equipped beforehand, Kappa." I could still be missing something, but man that fight pissed me off.

Number 11, put auto cure on your healer and cast haste on them so they always have atb when you need it, and you no longer need to worry about healing yourself (normal mode, cant comment on hard yet).
