so i just tried it and it doesnt work if you shuffle more than once right? and only works id you do that kind of shuffle

Even more cunning would be to fan out the cards in your hands and say, "can you see your card here? Don't tell me which one it is!"

their card won't be there, it will be facing you; you can just memorise it, and then do more, complicated patter and then pretend to read their mind.
