Coole Park, located near Gort in County Galway, is a serene and historically significant nature reserve that once served as the estate of Lady Augusta Gregory, a central figure in Ireland’s literary revival. This idyllic park, now managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, spans over 1,000 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows.

One of Coole Park’s most famous features is the Autograph Tree, a majestic copper beech tree where Lady Gregory’s literary guests, including W.B. Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, and Sean O’Casey, carved their initials. The estate was a vibrant hub for Ireland’s cultural elite during the early 20th century and inspired many of Yeats’s poems.
