Here is the link - remember newcomers get one month free with this link - definitely worth checking it out as I am highly impressed with this interface and way of discovering new music, whether you're a newbie or an experienced listener!

The problem with Apple is that they try to corner the market on EVERYTHING. Everything has to be about their product(s). I need this on Android.

I think Oscar is a bit too excited about this. While the search function really is really good and revolutionary compared to what we were used to up to now, I think there are huge problems with this. This whole playlist concept really pushes the recordings by two or three major labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and Sony and works in their favour of creating "pop stars" in classical music. Having playlists curated by big stars such as Yo Yo Ma only pushes this bubble of a small group of elite musicians even further. I really belive that this makes it even more difficult for all other musicians which are not in this Deutsche Grammophon bubble to be heard, even though lots of them are really good. Also, pushing Dolby Atmos so hard is really not a good thing. While Dolby Atmos is amazing for modern recordings, Apple Music has led to a wave of old recordings being remastered in Dolby Atmos just to get on playlists. These usually sound really bad as they were not planned as Dolby Atmos productions. But since Apple has partnered up with Dolby, these are the recordings they suggest. You actually have to really look to find the original stereo recordings (at least if you have a Dolby Atmos setup). Also some music (especially small chamber music and Lieder) don't really make that much sense in Dolby Atmos. And since remastering old recordings is quite expensive, this is again only an option for the really big labels, even further reducing the chances of everyone else to be heard.
Also did you see the moods? Melancholy, sleep, meditate and chill? Seriously? This just plays into the "classical music for studying" stereotype of all classical music sounds like clair de lune. Where is the uptempo playlist? Or the workout playlist? or any of the other playlists you would find in pop music. Classical music is so much more than relaxing, soft and slow!

I had an amazing Orchestra teacher for my 8th grade and highschool. They’re not classical teachers, they’re my spark for my love of classical music. TwoSetViolin made classical music more accessible, channels like yours made me understand classical music at a deeper level

Shame that Primephonic died for this. By far the more superior app.

Primephonic ofered curated contend, real time music analys (maestro), you could download the CD cover, and so much more.

Spotify did a similar thing, the thing is that they got the specific composers section too, but there is no guidance at all.
I wish that eventually Spotify will include the new "classic music" experience..

For people without Apple devices, there are other options. I have not tried Presto Music's streaming yet, but I like their site in other capacities already. Youtube also has an impressive amount of new, old, classic, and niche recordings in official uploads from the labels. But it's not curated, and sometimes the tracks haven't been organized into a playlist.

Idagio is just as good. I'm very happy with it and it's not restricted to Apple. Let's not keep feeding the big corporations.

Apple Classical is okay. It's an improvement. However, I've found multiple metadata errors for individual tracks. Often when searching for a concerto, the work is listed under the orchestra rather than the soloist. You can't download music for offline listening directly in the app. For newbies, the playlists do not encourage listening to entire works. At this point, it's essentially a search engine for me.

I have this app, but you just introduced me to things I hadn’t even noticed. I am going to use it more now. Thanks for the really well explained and thought out review

I actually find the search function rather irritating because unless your spelling is perfect (I have dyslexia) it won't find anything. But lots of new features that I never realised were in the app I have used for years so will have fun getting lost in the various playlist. My personal favourite is the Classical Edge playlist.

It sounds good, I'm already an Apple guy (2 macs, iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch), and the idea of having some text roll background on the composers, performers and the piece of themselves appeals to me. However, I am a piano student, and my teacher has Spotify, so if I want her to hear or something on Spotify, I can just copy out the URL, and message it to her.

I don't have Apple Music, since I mostly use Spotify, but this app's features might make the whole thing worth it for me. Thanks!
