The Cars is definitely a rabbit hole worth going down. A band ahead of it's time. They have a ton of great songs: Just What I Needed, Dangerous Type, Moving In Stereo, Let's Go, Candy-O, You Might Think, Shake It Up ... man, there's so many!

Watta a classic 80's ballad, one of my favorites from this decade, and the interpretation can go all over the places when it comes to mental illness, let's just say it's a complicated love story.💔

Of all of the Cars songs you could do... this is probably the most mellow one out there. Most of their music is fun and upbeat.

I always interpreted Drive as a song about a bad relationship near its end, written from the perspective of another guy who likes the girl, watching what it’s doing to her and wanting to be there for her.

My interpretation of the song has always been the importance of having someone there for you when you need them. I don't believe it's anything specific. I'm not sure which band member wrote the lyrics, and I'm sure they're inspired by a personal experience, but the way it's written, anybody can relate to it in whatever way. I just think the overall point of the song is that life can be difficult at times and the importance of having someone there for you during those times makes it a lot easier to deal with them, than when you're alone.

The Cars debut album is one of the greatest debut albums of all time. This song came out in the MTV days and The Cars had a bunch of more "poppy" hits. They have a great catalog of music/ I prefer Ben Orr (R.I.P.) singing lead more than Rik Ocasik (R.I.P.)

It originally came out in 1984, but it was a huge worldwide smash when it was reissued after the Live Aid concert the following year-the song was sung by them at that event over harrowing footage of the Ethiopian famine & so became one of the most recognisable & popular songs of the decade. The model in the video ended up marrying the band member in the room with her five years later.

Bassist Benjamin Orr was the second vocalist for The CARS, a Boston based band who first appeared on the scene in 1978. The tall, dark haired gent, Guitarist Ric Ocasek, was the other lead Vocalist. The beautiful young lady was Paulina Poritsokova, Ocasek's eventual wife, who was a famous Supermodel in her time. One of the moodier songs from their debut album, which were mostly upbeat rockers, with a twist. The CARS sort of started the Eighties in the late Seventies.

Paulina Porizkowa is the name of the woman. A supermodel from Tchechoslowakia in the 80ies and the partner of singer Rick Ocasek.

Alright. Getting into some of The Cars. They have some good songs. If I'm being honest, I only know so much about them, but they were big at a moment when I was a kid in the 80s, and I remember their wacky videos on MTV more than anything. This song was their slower one compared to their usual stuff, but very popular, and the lead singer on this one is the bassist Benjamin Orr, but the other guy with the darker hair in the video is Rick Ocasek, who is really the primary lead singer, song writer, and band leader, but I think they would sometimes switch off who does lead, but Rick Ocasek is the sound they're probably more identified with. Also, the model in the video is Paulina Porizkova. She was a Czech born, but raised in Sweden, model that was big at the time in the mid 80s ish. Like, a few years later, her and Rick Ocasek ended up getting together, and they were married for 30 years, until Rick died a few years ago. I think the video was directed by Timothy Hutton, who was an actor from the 80s.

Recommend: The Cars. Song is Just What I Needed. Live from The Midnight Special. The Midnight Special was a TV show that was on at midnight where artists would perform in front of an audience. The Cars also performed Let's Go and Moving in Stereo. Any would give a great quality live performance in their prime. 😊😊❤❤

About htis beatiful ballad however, the lyrics are written from the perspective of a guy watching a girl hitting a downward spiral in her life, attempting to get her to question what's going wrong in her life. Still love this song, such a beautiful ballad. Thank you for bringing this back in my memory.

The Cars were one of the best bands of the 80s and this is most probably their greatest hit.
RIP Ben Orr and Rick Ocasek. 😪

This was the song that started "Live Aid" someone at the BBC put it as a background to the starving children in Ethiopia, Bob Geldof saw it and rang round his mates to see if they would do a song for charity, "do they know it's Christmas" was recorded and hit number one, then the concert was planned, the rest is history

The blonde haired guy who is singing in the video is actually the bass player from the band.

His name is Benjamin Orr, but he's unfortunately dead now.

RIP Benjamin Orr.

This is probably one of the best songs in the history of music. Everything is flawless and beautiful. The tone, rhythm, harmony, melody, and the shape of the musical chords make it a masterpiece, including Benjamin Orr's vocals. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a boy watching a girl go through a downward spiral in her life, trying to make her question what is going wrong in her life.

Lines like "who's gonna pick you up when you fall?", "who's gonna pay attention to your dreams?" and the chorus "who's gonna take you home?" feel genuinely compassionate yet hopeless at the same time. That's why the video shows a woman struggling with mental and emotional issues collapsing in her bedroom, having her boyfriend try to make her understand the emptiness their separation would cause. The beautiful woman in the video is supermodel Paulina Porzikova and the man is Rick Ocasek, the band's frontman. They met while making the video and got married in 1989. That's why Drive is pure magic no matter how you look at it.
