It’s summertime 1994 in a quiet ex-mining village in Yorkshire. Trevor (Tom Varey) is treading on everyone’s toes at home as misfit Pogo (Esme Creed-Miles) is trying to make sense of the world. Lovesick Malcolm (Angus Imrie) is trying to mend his broken heart and best friends Shane (Gianluca Gallucci) and David (Ethan Wilkie) have nothing better to do. When rumours of a giant carp at the local ponds begin to swirl about town, this young community, led by Trevor, embark on a fishing expedition they will never forget.

With breakout performances by a cast of rising stars and an evocative original score by Richard Hawley, this bittersweet debut feature sits alongside Billy Elliott and Brassed Off in the great British tradition of films about post-industrial communities.

How can 16 people dislike this film. Watched it this evening, Pond Life set in and around Donny, no guns, no blood, no car chasers. Just working men's clubs, meat raffles, childhood memories, arcade games, kids playing in the street, cassette tapes, American werewolf in London, and fishing,

What a beautiful film. Definitely an oscar for whoever played pogo 😭. Absolutely brilliant

I was a projectionist - back when there used to be such a job, and ran this film to all of 12 people. The director came up to introduce the screening, I felt terrible for him. He was such a lovely fella too. I absolutely loved Pond Life. It's a wonderful film with some excellent actors and it introduced me to the music of Richard Hawley. Forever grateful.
