Developed by Blizzard Entertainment and published by Interplay in 1994

Blizzard Entertainment's platform-action game is very much a mash-up of Prince of Persia and Flashback, spiced up with their trademark high fantasy lore.

The game was originally released for the SNES in 1994, alongside a conversion for the PC (the version that I first got to play).

It's equally accomplished as it's forebears in most regards, featuring some good animation and decent production values.

The gun combat is OK, although the hiding in shadows concept can get tiresome in the mid-game when enemies increase in health and take more hits before dying.

Overall, it's a pretty cool game, and I'm looking forward to checking out some of the other versions in the future.

It's like futuristic heavy metal Prince of Persia! This is a great looking game. I'm surprised I never heard of it back in the day.

Played this as a kid in 1998. I didn't "see" it as a game back then, I thought I literally WAS within the game as I would play it and and it was all really happening lol.

I remember being 4 years old watching my older brother playing this game late at night when our parents went to sleep. Until the one day it let me try this game. Another childhood memory of one of my first game I ever played.

Aww yeah, Blackthorne is a great game--and it's really fun being able to give NPCs bloody deaths with extreme prejudice in some versions. I miss old Blizzard/North.
