My favorite trivia about this film is that Shane Black wanted to write a romance film after the 'failure' of The Long Kiss Goodnight but he kept getting writer's block and just said "Fuck it. I have to put a murder in it." Phenomenal film.

As a gay man, I loved the portrayal of Val Kilmer as a regular guy who happens to be gay. I get tired of the stereotypes of gay men as the flamboyant and sassy best friend. These stereotypes donot reflect reality .AND the gay man does not die. This was refreshing.

This movie is just entertaining overall. The chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer was nothing short of immaculate. Val Kilmer was the highlight of the film, and that's not a knock on RDJ, or anyone else. Also, I love Michelle Monaghan. It's a shame that we didn't get a sequel.

There is no witty dialogue in the world like witty Shane Black dialogue. I just love the way Shane Black characters speak and interact, it's just music to my ears.

I audibly asserted, “Oh hell yeah!” when the notification came up for this video. Getting Stuckmannized Shane Black style is a wonderful Christmas gift.

I adore this movie because it's not afraid to go dark when it needs to, but never to the point that you can't have fun with it. The eventual reveal and the whys and whos are actually really, really dark. Same with The Nice Guys. The plot is really dark, but populated with these fresh, aware characters that you don't notice. I want another Shane Black movie like this. The whole "Look up the definition of idiot in the dictionary" line is probably my favorite joke in the movie. And while Downey Jr is amazing in this, Val Kilmer is unmatched in comedic timing and delivery. I once told a friend that this movie is what would happen if James Elroy (author of LA Confidential) wrote a Deadpool movie. I wish they would give Shane Black a TV series and let him play. Great review and Merry (belated) Christmas to you and yours Chris!

I’ve seen quite a few videos of people talking about this movie this year, and it warms my heart. I’m glad this movie is finally getting the recognition it deserves

I told Val Kilmer himself that this was my favorite of his movies at the Atlanta Comic Con. He fucking loved it!

Val Kilmer was excellent in this movie, one of his best performances and movies since the 80s and 90s

The Nice Guys is my second favorite film of all time and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is amazing. Need more of these two from Shane Black

Just showed this film to my girlfriend a couple days ago. I have a lot of favorite films, but this is definitely one I never get tired of rewatching.

Iron man 3 is also a Shane Black movie that takes place around Christmas, and while he didn't direct the first Lethal Weapon movie, he was the story writer who set the movie during Christmas.

It's nice to look back on the movies that helped turn RDJ's life around. Because if you only know him from post-Iron Man stardom... Downey's substance abuse was a massive scandal in Hollywood. Like really, really bad...

This was one of my favorite movies while I was working at blockbuster in the early 2000s and it was severely overlooked. Between this one, Sunshine, and Running Scared, those were the three most recommended movies I recommended to people who have “seen everything”.

A very unexpected and welcome review Chris!

Also, Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer are fire in this film.

This was genuinely a good movie. The Key and Peele Valet sketch did great summing up Val Kilmer’s and RDJ’s careers intersecting at this movie.
