Today, our video is regarding a medicine called Cytotec. which is not only used to prevent stomach ulcers. but off label, is also used for the purpose of pregnancy termination. induction of labor. for Treatment of incomplete abortion. and many more conditions which we will discuss in the video
we will let you know. uses, dose, side effects, and the which condition it should be never used. But before starting video, always remember, to use this medicine under dr. supervision
Cytotec contains active ingredient misoprostol. which is Primarily used to prevents stomach ulcers in people who take NSAID medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach and protecting the stomach lining.
The dose for this purpose is 200 microgram (mcg ) every 6 hours with food; which may be decreased to 100 microgram (mcg ) every 6 hours if higher dose is not tolerated
cytotec is also used for induction of labor.
For this purpose 25 microgram (mcg, 1/4 of 100-mcg oral tablet)is given intravaginally initially. then repeat at intervals, not to exceed every 3 to 6 hours
Please note: this medicine Not to be used in patients with previous cesarean delivery or major uterine surgery
cytotec is also used for Treatment of Incomplete Abortion (Off-label)
For this purpose, 600 microgram, which is equal to Three tablets of 200 microgram., is given orally at once.
For pregnancy termination cytotec is used in combination with Mifepristone to bring about a medical abortion during pregnancy and manage early miscarriage. This combination is 97% effective during the first 63 days of pregnancy.
Never use this medicine.
You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you do become pregnant, think you are pregnant, or want to become pregnant, immediately call your care team for advice
Cytotec can cause birth defects, premature birth, uterine rupture, miscarriage, or incomplete miscarriage and dangerous uterine bleeding
The most common side effects of Cytotec include diarrhea,stomach pain,nausea,upset stomach,gas,vaginal bleeding or spotting,heavy menstrual flow, andmenstrual cramps.
At last, Avoid taking antacids that contain magnesium, while using misoprostol, because they may make the diarrhea it causes worse. If you need an antacid, consult your doctor or pharmacist to help you choose a product.
