This video is going straight to my ADHD playlist to share with less-than-understanding and empathic people I have to deal with.

The lady who dropped the book while picking g up the plant is me. That confusion is so frustrating.

The first thought that came to my mind when I saw you was "I love this fellow human because she shares mental health education. Such a gift to humanity! I love your very existence. ❤"

The hair was mentioned in this vid, I already noticed your hair before and I find it beautiful. The curls are lovely which is very hard to achieve >_<! You are gorgeous in my eyes and for others as well. ✨

Thank you for this vid 🙏

Good point at the end. From memory there is impacted working memory/short term memory in ADHD, but long term memory retention is typically intact.

What's interesting is that I will read something, close the book and be totally unable to remember what I just read. Then as I am reopening the book, it all comes flooding back into my mind at once just from the act of opening the book before I see a single letter of text, even if it's been weeks or months.

I do not understand it.

Google Calendar has been one of my best friends on this front. I'll put even some of the most mundane tasks in there so I don't seem like a klutz.

Dale Carnegie (how to win friends and influence people) said that the reason that we forget someone's name, is that we didn't hear them say it, because we were too busy concentrating on telling them our own name. The key, is to make you repeat the person's name back to them. This ensures you heard it, and you spoke it, with multiple impressions with memory increase chances of recall later. When you say someone's name, they like you better, as it demonstrates you remembered their name, even if it only was for 10 seconds! If the person is important, you should write their name in a note on your phone. When you write, you read, so that's four impressions: listen, say, write, read.

Before tou completed your first word, I was thinking about how beautiful you are and what a glorious head of hair. I had to turn my screen face down so that I could HEAR your words. ADD is like someone else has the remote control to my brain.

Not totally about the subject of forgetfullness, but touches on the chronic distractability; when the gal in the vid goes to the clothing covered table top *chronic chaotic mess* and takes a plant, and something falls bcz of the mess, her distress looking back and forth from plant to fallen item, trying to prioritize her attention on which to take care of in the moment, was so familiar and stressful to me to view. Really touched a sore spot, and I appreciate that you help us get and stay in touch with these difficult moments to help us love ourselves instead of judge. Others make judgement FOR us

I wish I could cherry pick what does and doesn't get stuck in my head.

I realized lately that my lack of protein while going full speed at life, can cause some nasty side effects. Irritability is a real issue that has to be managed. Also, the forgetfulness part: I sat on shakes that were for a delivery that I literally just put down a few seconds before. A whole mess. 😲

An important part of what you said is that our minds aren’t necessarily focusing on the things we care about.
This is so different to how the minds of neurotypical people work… and can be a source of great sadness to us, especially when our attention is held by something scary, which can often happen… because scary thoughts are so demanding of attention, even over things we really genuinely care about and enjoy like relationships, work we like doing, books we like reading etc.

Yes! That’s why I started taking notes when I’m dating someone new or even set reminders for friends e.g. doctor’s appointments, interviews, etc.

I suffer from ADHD. But I have a video and audio recorder in my brain, that began functioning at about 4 years of age. I am no Mary Lou Henner. But if I can pull up the relevant tape, the video especially is spot on. No emotion clouds the “tape”. Everything I said and did, and others said and did is there without any bias. I am a wonderful witness. I guess this was a “trauma” skill, developed in a family that told and did things that they had no intention to make a reality.
These “tapes” helped me review my own words and actions, reflect on how to communicate much more effectively. ( And yes, this skill drives many people to anger, frustrated that the memory is so coldly clinical and objective.) I make many mistakes in life, my “tapes” alert to my errors, and I quickly admit I was wrong and apologize, ( often!😮).
I am human, and blunder often. I do the best I can to learn from my costly errors. Thanks Dr.Marks!😊

Yes!!! Sometimes I freak out about remembering the person and hyperfocus on one part of the interaction like the name and forget the other parts, like what the person looks like 😂

The example where you introduce yourself and the clip where the woman drops a book and picks up a plant resonated with me on a very deep level. I do things like that all the time. Your videos made me wonder if I have adhd myself but I keep pushing off finding out.

I believe I have inattentive adhd, not diagnosed, but recently noticed my forgetfulness from 1 minute to the next. Seeing my husband frustrated with me when he asks me to do things and I forget. I either thought I had early onset dementia or this. But after watching your videos and others about adhd, I took 4 online tests. 3 said I have it and 1 said I was close. I’m 41 and just realizing all this. I thought I was losing it! Thx so much for the videos.
