Have to disagree with some of this. It’s always worth upgrading the weapons you’re using because they’ll be more potent while using them. Also, a fully upgraded weapon/armor sells for more usually including a special component. Time is only wasted in a video game if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing. The game isn’t a race. Take your time. Soak everything in. Nowadays way too many people breeze through epic games without taking the time to truly appreciate them.

I’ve spent many hours in the game and am not even half way. The first Horizon was sizeable. This one is much larger than the original game plus its dlc. Part of the game is exploration and discovery. Many upgrades you may come accross passively providing you scan new areas. Take down new machines and shoot off/harvest components when you can. Shoot down and hunt various wildlife as you never know when something might come in handy.

Personally, I like to discover most things for myself then if I realise I made a mistake I’ll start over.

Play the game, have fun and do what you want, however you want. There’s no race, it’s singleplayer. Every new game lasts 1-2 weeks because people rush through it. Take everything in because it was crafted with countless hours, days, months and years by developers who had sleepless nights because they had a schedule to make.

The amount of storm bird cannons you need to upgrade weapons is crazy.

Never too worried about spoilers, but love how you can still convey this information while not giving much away

Volitate sludge is important for some advanced ammo types. Gathering it is the hard part. You can spend 40 each . A total of 600 shards max with the max out resource pouch. Some apex machines drop the sludge but I think the apex spinout drops 5 of them for every kill. You can also keep an eye for out for crabs. Their kills can reward a purple rarity drop can be traded for 1 sludge. The only cost is the shards used for crafting arrows.
The advanced ammo is powerful so you want to make out types you need most at the crafting table. It does not reduce the sludge at the table vs out in the field but still reduces the other materials cost and blastpaste doesn't grow on trees.

Yeah, I should've known from playing the AC games not to upgrade intro weapons and armor too early, but I did so with my first Hunter bow and Nora Champion armor, just to get a feel for the workshop. Since then, I'm just using each new weapon (it's wonderful how many free ones you get so you really don't have to buy many at all) as-is until I do a quest that earns me a better one. I love the new Stash feature so I can set those special quest items aside if I'm not actively doing a quest for those items

So many people say “complete all the races, it’s not that hard and doesn’t take that long.” Meanwhile I’m here completely unable to come close to winning a single race.

Did not know about being able to pull the mods off armor when you get them from upgrading the armor. Thanks for that tip!👍

I've only played till just past the embassy part but one of the things that I've seen from these videos that H2 seems to have done worse is weapons and armor, in my opinion. It appears as if there's a fair amount of weapon/armor bloat. Not only that, but the next tier weapon you find may not be a direct upgrade to your current one.

I actually like the armor, the mixed set works well if you just to randomize your play. The bow is great too, but that death bow from the arena hits more for me.

"Don't upgrade anything except for very early/late/end/post-game stuff, ignore and outright avoid upgrading literally anything blue or purple more than/even once, hoard resources like a pack rat and never use them until you're kitted out in full legendary gear and can stage-dive a thunderjaw."
Yeah cause i'm gonna deliberately gimp myself and give the enemies a significant handicap against myself. Sure. You can only say that cause you've beaten every single game you've ever covered on their equivalent to Hell or Hell difficulty from DMC with no upgrades/damage and your view of being low level has as such become jaded from your overwhelming amount of experience. I'm sort of the same way in some games but I still get bodied from time to time and sure i've given advice to numerous lower level players, but i'd never tell them "Yeah just don't upgrade your equipment until the end of the game." That's just bad advice and, if you were a doctor, malpractice.

They learned from the first game. There you had access to tear, freeze, and fire arrows pretty early on. Once you get the three notched skill taking things down got really easy. You can still get it early on in the sequel but it looks like the elements have been tamed down enough to avoid creating the same situation. Yeah, the throwable boom-spear is powerful but like you said it isn't cheap to craft. Personally I think the explosive sling was strong as hell in the original. Once I got it I used it to take down pretty much everything.

Don’t make the mistake I did. I spent about 15-20 hours before the final quests hunting down every resource needed to fully upgrade all the legendary weapons- turns out upgrading past level 3 really isn’t that important at all and is just headache inducing with how much effort you have to put in.

I used the vanguard hunter bow tear is 254 with damage low at 83 fully upgraded. Then I demolish them with the skykiller! For smaller to medium machines the vanguard can take them out with one shot to their weak spot. Plus building up your skill in warrior, hunter and infiltrator helps a lot.

I don't understand? Don't upgrade your weapon because you *might* find a better weapon later at some point maybe. ...but how do you know if and when you'll find a better weapon? And when do you know when you have a weapon that *is* worth upgrading??

Good content, I've got 115hrs it the Forbidden West only cause I hate that when you start the final mission (singularity) the open world is closed. I decided to just pursue upgrades and unknown locations. I won't lie though I was hoping for more side quests.
