Mike's ability to seamlessly loop a Short is world-class, much respect.

I love how Mike failed to mention that after Murray was traded from Philly, he literally made a Pro Bowl at Tennessee. He wasn’t out of the league because no one wanted him. After he was released, he publicly stated he wanted to preserve his health.

Dude Murray started over Henry in Tennessee and got 1946 yards.
He was #3 in rushing in 2016.
He retired because he wanted to be able to walk, not because he was forced out the league and nobody wanted him.

I think the injury factor/long-term deal aspect is definitely a big part of the issue. Having said that, I feel like the fact that there are way more decent quality running backs than there are teams is an even bigger factor.

I'm a Panther and I had no problems with CMC contract, he still earning his dough in San Francisco, go McCaffrey, the one successful high paid RB

Then there's Nick Chubb.. Dude is a workhorse, one of the best RBs in the league, got a $30 million dollar contract, and you barely hear one thing from him..

The problem is that the players are almost never paid for their production, speaking about the backs that out play their contract. If they rush for 4, 800 yards over a 3yr rookie deal they weren't fairly compensated. Then the owner and GM are working with the projection that the RB lifespan is about to expire and they don't want to fork over any significant money for future services. The backs that do get a good 2nd contract are really getting compensation for that shitty rookie deal. But the owner and GM really try to twist that narrative into something negative.

Now, with such mobile quarterbacks…. Besides, it’s mostly all about the blocking, give any speedy college running back from any school a good size hole.

Rookie deal for RBs needs to be laced with incentives

Well in fairness…running backs are a Swiss Army knife expected to do multiple actions every game. Of course their gonna get hurt when you have to rush, block, catch, sometimes throw, against men who on average weigh between 250-300+ LBS at 6’3, when a running back is gonna be 190-220LBS. 5’10.

They can't sustain that level of performance. It's an extremely physically taxing position.

i honestly think the rb position needs to be looked at. In the current state of the nfl the position is set up to be a high risk low reward job. gonna have alot of high school and college level rbs switching positions at this rate.

If Gurley had managed to stay healthy I believe he would've been a top ten running back of all time. Even 8-9 years of consistency

I don’t blame Bell for the season he had in New York, i blame Adam Gase

That same theory applies to all positions. To single out the RB position is wild. QB’s get paid and suck, WR’s DL CB ect…

I think the best way for the RBs to get fair NFL money is to adjust the rookie contracts coming out of college. It’s no secret that the longer they are in the league the more wear on their body and they become less effective and more injury prone. Plus most rookie RBs can make an impact immediately compared to some other positions. I don’t think the answer is to try and force management to pay big money for FA backs cause they rarely work out.
