Hisashi, being nearest to the tank, got affected by 17 sieverts of radiation, more than twice what is commonly considered a fatal level of exposure!
He was in pain and couldn’t breathe properly. He vomited into the tank and lost his consciousness in the chamber.

The radiation poisoning massively damaged his chromosomes. He experienced some severe burns in that incident. His internal organs were damaged completely.

His flesh blistered, and he bled from his eyes.

Two months of being in a hospital bed, Hisashi’s intestines began to hemorrhage and up to 10 blood transfusions were given within 12 hours.

The doctors began skin transplants, despite being nearly skinless and skeletal-looking.

Hisashi said: “No more…I’m going home…please stop…mom…”.

They didn’t listen.

When it became too painful, Hisashi was put into a coma.

At one point, Hisashi’s heart stopped. He was resuscitated 3 times despite begging for his suffering to end. Nonetheless, the doctors continued to study his condition, and were interested in his reactions to the treatment to ‘further progress’ science.

Nearing the end, Hisashi begged the doctors to allow him to die — “I’m not a guinea pig!” he said.

A do-not-resuscitate order finally came through. After 83 days of excruciating pain, 83 days of keeping him alive in hell, he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The doctors finally allowed Hisashi to die…
