Leisure sailing in Brazil after crossing the Atlantic Ocean. #Brazil #TravelDocumentary

From Namibia to Brazil, crossing the South Atlantic ocean we sailed on our catamaran 3200 nautical miles (nearly 6000 kilometeres). After 25 days of an ocean passage we came into a big bay - Bahia de Todos os Santos. We decided to sail first to Itaparica island and give us a rest.
The last night before arriving to Salvador we didn’t have much sleep. It was pretty much traffic – fishing boats, tankers, squalls, rains. But we were in a really good mood – We made it again! Second ocean crossing! Ola Brazil!
We chilled in Itaparica. Strolling the streets, listening brazilian street music and enjoing famous Bahian food.
“Itaparica island is seen as a green spot on the blue background of the sea. It is so smooth near the shore that it seems that you can see stones at the bottom.” – Jorge Amado
Few weeks later we sailed across the bay to beautiful anchorages on Ilha Dos Frades and Ilha do Bom Jesus dos Passos. Light breeze, sunsets woven from heat and gold and local saiing boats gliding over the waters of Bahia.
For the first time since Madagascar we were able to clean the hulls underwater from tons of barnacles and algae. For this we beached our catamaran and worked hard between lowest and highest tide.
Now was the time to sail to Salvador and explore the most mysterious and beautiful city in the world.
“When I talk about the main capital of this northern people, everyone understands that we are talking about the city of Bahia, often called, no one knows why, Salvador.” – Jorge Amado
This city is full of joy, music and dance. The streets are filled with delicious flavors of Bahian cuisine and stories of famous Bahian writer Jorge Amado. We read few of his books before we came to Salvador and it was such an amazing feeling – like we’re just in his books! We have never had such a wonderful guide book!
“Here, in Pelourinho, in this free university, the people create their art. Here is his cradle. And professors and teachers - in every house, in every shop, in every workshop.” – Jorge Amado
We were very impressed with Bahian moqueca and came to the Cuco Bistro to learn how to make it. Don’t miss it – in our next film we’ll share with you all secrets of this fantastic fish stew.
After 1,5 month exploring Bahia de Todos os Santos we sailed 60 nautical miles south to Camamu. This bay is full of small channels and calm anchorages – holiday area for us. Here we wanted to relax and enjoy simple joys – good food, silence, friendly people, tropical fruits and flowers, secluded beaches, colourful sunsets. Can you imagine? 4 weeks of doing nothing! Ok, ok, we were working a bit on our fims and photos.
Those weeks run fast and finally it was time to come back to Salvador to provision for the next ocean passage and check out from Brazil. Our 3 months of Brazilian Holidays are finished and we have to move on. Cruisers reality.
A bit more than 2500 nauticals miles are in front of us. We’re ready to sail to our favorite island in the Caribbean – Tobago.
Just before we left our watermaker broke. Luckily we got enough water from the land before this long ocean passage.

I love the minimalist narration. You allow us to come close to experiencing the moment. Miles said it what you don’t play that matters as much as what you play. Danke!

Hello from Phuket where you bought the catamaran. Been a lot of water under the hull since I gave you those parts for the Hutton winches you had on your old catamaran a few catamarans back. Looks like a nice place. I am still in Phuket. Retiring to Australia next year and going 4x4 camping around Australia
