Laenor Velaryon Dead Or Alive In House Of The Dragon Season 2 Explained. A possible narrative hole in House of the Dragon could be revealed if Seasmoke chooses Addam, as it hints that Laenor Velaryon may be dead. Seasmoke and other Targaryen dragons prove that connection is more nuanced than previously believed.

Seasmoke smells leanor in addam, And also seasmoke has been circling addam for a bit. can't remember, but in one of the eps he's digging through the mud on the beach and seasmoke is flying overhead. think he's been interested in addam for a while.

i just know when it was all said and done Rhaenyra, Laena, Daemon, Harwin, and Laenor and all of their collective children where reunited and happy in the valaryian after life

The show slightly “messed” this up by confirming that they are Corlys bastard children instead of maintaining the rumor that Adam and his brother could potentially be Laenor’s bastard just as equally as they could be Corlys’.

This slight change completely changes the dragon riding lore.

The Velaryons have Targaryen blood, we've been told that they have been intermarrying since the move to Westeros.

The prevailing theory is that you do need Targaryen blood to claim a Targaryen dragon. They had Ti Mikkel write a whole song about the blood magic used to bind the dragons to the families (which is as good as coming from George) and they very clearly illustrated it in the opening, so that gives even more weight to it. Each dragon-riding family in Valyria would have had their own dragons, which is why they practiced incest - to keep other families from getting their dragons.

Velaryons are not dragon lords and they should not be able to ride dragons. Only some families in Old Valyria had dragons and the only surviving family that rode dragons are the Targaryens. When they came to Westeros, the Targaryens intermarried with the Velaryons (Aegon the Conqueror’s mother was a Velaryon).

Prior to Corlys, however, we don’t have direct evidence of a Targaryen in the Velaryon line, however. We might be lacking that information (we don’t have much information about the Velaryon lineage in general), but Rhaenyra did look for possible dragonriders and decided Darklyn was the most likely candidate, not Corlys.

We don’t know why the Addam can ride a dragon. In the book, Addam and Alyn are officially said to be Laenor’s sons, in which case, Rhaenys is their grandmother and that’s where they get their dragonriding from. However, it is also strongly rumored that they are Corlys’ (as in the show) but it’s not explained how they can ride dragons.

It might also be entirely false that you need any particular heritage to ride a dragon. That’s also hinted at in the books.

The most common theory is that Corlys have dragon blood. Targaryens and Velaryons have married before.

That was my reasoning! If any Valyrian descendants were able to claim a dragon, in a time of need, why would Rhaenyra ask for Lord Darklyn and not Velaryons and Celtigars (since it would be safer for all parties involved).

But it’s possible that the current Targaryens were also induced in error and think that dragon lord blood is a must in claiming a dragon.

Well, the furthest back we can go for the Velaryons is Daemon Velaryon who was around during the conquest. His son married a Massey, and we do not know the wives of the next two Velaryon sons.

However, because the Targaryen family tree is so well mapped out, I don't think they were Targaryrens. Similarly, that's why I don't think either Alarra, or the two unknown wives had targayren blood.

So unless Corlys is descended from Gaemon's unknown daughter, I don't see how it would work.

It‘s stated that the islands of Driftmark and Dragonstone don’t lack Dragonseeds (Targaryen (Valyrian) bastards). The custom of the first night wasn’t as frowned upon on the islands as on the mainland - who doesn’t want a royal Targaryen bastard, right?

Addam‘s mother could have been one.

“Your mother must have been beautiful“

Maybe Corlys has a type? He certainly has some Targ ancestors, though.

The point is, Laenor carried the gene for Black hair and because Rhaenys had Black hair, we know that it can prevail over Valaryian silver. There was so much DISCUSSION about who the father of Rhaenrya's kids was because it WAS possible that Laenor fathered them.

They were not at the top of the Dragonlord foodchain, that's right. But they were one of the 40 ruling families in one of the greatest civilisations that world has ever seen. That placed them higher than Velaryon and definitely higher than Celtigar. I read somewhere, don't remember where, that Celtigar were not originally highborn at all. They were just (somewhat wealthy) merchants.

We already saw what happened when they lost their dragons. Their power and semi-divine image they built around themselves just disappeared. This is why I believe Daenerys behaves the way she does. Since she hatched dragons in a very magical way, she was the closest thing to a Valyrian Dragonlord that world has seen in centuries.

The tea is this: The Targs are the last ones left "officially" of the dragonriders, so they write the narrative. All the histories of Old Valyria are gone. To everyones knowledge, the Velaryons were always seafarers and weren't dragonriders themselves back then, but thats not to say thats because it was impossible, or that they have no dragonblood themselves from intermarriage. The ruling families of the Freehold might just have been exclusive bitches about who was allowed to have dragons, the same as the Targs are currently.

Velaryons can ride dragons because they’re also the Blood of Old Valyria. The reason why Corlys, Vaemond and the extended family didn’t ride dragons was because their House only acquired dragons through Corlys’ marriage with Rhaenys.

House Targaryen were the only ones that brought dragons with them when they moved to Westeros and they were not going to gift them to the other Valyrian houses. This is why House Celtigar, the third Valyrian house, never had dragons. In Old Valyria they were peasants and Targaryens saw it as beneath them to marry into that house.

The books are historical records based on hear say written by the maesters and a clown. The dragons have a magical bond with their riders through the valaryian practice of blood magic. Seasmoke ones laenor died because that magical bond was severed that’s why he was distressed.
