I like how different the archons react to immortality and losing a friend: Venti used escapism (aka running away and going after pleasures such as drinking), Zhong li buried himself in his work (though he could be considered luckier since he had other immortal companions?), while Baal is in denial of what happened, well not really in denial but she’s trying to make sure that her pains would never happen again.

Baal's friends:

(Left to right as seen in the photo) Sasayuri "tengu", Chiyo "oni", and the Kitsune Saiguu "kitsune".

1. Sasayuri was a tengu general who died during the battle between Baal and Orobashi. We can see Baal on top of Orobashi before Sasayuri was lost in the picture.

2. Chiyo was an oni who fought alongside Baal and the Kitsune Saiguu 500 years ago during the cataclysm. She was swallowed by a beast of sin. She managed to escape, but she was already corrupted. Chiyo then fought Baal as we can see in another scene, to which she lost, and she disappeared after that.

3. The Kitsune Saiguu died right during the battle from 500 years ago. As the dark forces ravaged Teyvat during the cataclysm, Baal rallied along with Chiyo, the Kitsune Saiguu, and the spirits of Inazuma.

Unfortunately, the Kitsune Saiguu was defeated by the dark forces in the war. She pleaded the enemies to spare her memory, and they granted her dying wish. Her memory went back to Inazuma, and it materialized into Kazari the masked shrine maiden.

After completing the archon quest, the person she’s chasing after makes it even sadder

After finishing the Act 2 of Ei's Story Quest, watching this video again amplified how emotional this is, people who loves Ei and were invested in the recent quest can relate.

Damn this trailer sums up the archon quest but still doesn’t spoil it it’s brilliant, Mihoyo really outdid themselves with Ei’s backstory

One thing I love that mihoyo did, unintentionally or intentionally, was basically reincarnate Raiden’s old friends. Sara is the new tengu general, Itto is the new Oni, and Yae is the new fox. Specifically Sara and Itto are the direct descendants of the originals. It seems they are all friends as well; itto and Sara are frenemies/rivals, itto and Sara are also friends with Yae. Ei finally has her friends again!
