This is how NYU decides who to reject in 30 seconds. For those of you who don't know, NYU is a prestigious private school located in the east coast. Just like the temperature there, NYU's acceptance rate is in the negatives.

If you're reading this, hi! I'm ShivVZG, a sophomore at the University of Southern California. I'm on a journey to critique every single aspect of the educational system in a satirical and playful manner.

As a fellow NYU rejectee, this is true.

As a person who got in I can say the main thing they look at is your essays. Make sure they come from your heart and are written well

I had an unweighted GPA of 3.64, I didn’t submit any standardized test scores but I got a 27 on my ACT, I’m not first generation nor legacy, I quit two sports teams, I majored in film at Tisch, Daddy didn’t own half a building, and I’m from Oakland, California.

I AM LIVING PROOF THAT YOU CAN DO IT

At the beginning, I was thinking, “ wow, This seems possible to get into” but then I see the part about donating a building xD

All of these describe me when I applied and I'm now a senior in Tisch Filmmaking and TV Production. Don't let anything stop you.

You can't tell me what to do! I'll be applying to NYU even though I'm Asian, live in a different country, daddy didn't donate half his building, and finally, I'm majoring in film. So hahaha.

As someone who got in and had a criminal record…but turned it into an amazing essay about a learning experience and desire to become a criminal defense attorney…idk if it was for diversity or the essay but it was definitely 1 of the 2 bc my Gpa was 3.4 UW and 4.3 W

My fav part of these is at the end when you say the final reason and take your large breath of air.
Please do John Hopkins soon and nice video again

As a typical Asian Californian, it was actually NYU that accepted me (after being waitlisted) and the UCs that rejected me when I applied for college. Funny world we live in.

I'm Chinese, our school doesn't do GPA, I didn't take the SAT, I’m not legacy, I was never in any sports teams, I live next to NYUSH, never showed interest until 2 days before I applied, applied RD, I got accepted to a Bio major at NYU, Daddy didn’t own half a building either. Living proof anyone can do it if they really try!

As someone who was accepted to NYU/Tisch....The essay is important! Show life experience.

Funny. I had a 3.6 GPA, I’m half Asian, I took 3 AP classes, I majored in film, I applied regular decision, and I was rejected from Columbia, and I still got into NYU. Of course, this was back in 2009.

One of my friends got accepted into NYU. Unfortunately, upon her just looking at the financial aid package, she realized how little it meant...😔

My friend got in and he had some of these traits. He had a 1300 SAT 3.3 GPA, only took 1 AP Class, doesn’t live in NY, but he’s rich, showed demonstrated interest and he’s doing Music Technology so that explains it

Do CORNELL university, please. I will begin my first semester in August. I was admitted to NYU too but I received a low financial aid. They asked me to pay 48k per year 😰
But Cornell helped me with 95% of my expenses 👍

As someone who got in, I can say a lot of it is about your essay. Tho I did have above average stats and courses, I believe what really made me stood out was my essay
