Bon Appétit editor Andrew Knowlton attempts to work 24 hours straight at Katz's Delicatessen in New York City. Katz's Deli, which has been around since 1888, is home to the famous scene from "When Harry Met Sally" and offers the best brisket, pastrami, and corned beef sandwiches in NYC. Can Knowlton survive the hectic ups and downs of the busiest deli in the city that never sleeps?

anyone who's ever learned the ropes of a service industry job on the go can relate well-ish to this video i'd think. you never forget the awkwardness and chaos of your first day.

open almost 24h with a constant flow of customers, including long rush hours over lunch and dinner with huge qeues, and then 22+ USD for a sandwich? What a goldmine.

"$50 if you lose your ticket." - 7:50
I'll just buy $200 worth of food (aka 1 sandwich and some fries), and "lose" my ticket.

Katz Deli...where the pickles are as sour as our attitude

Watching this as a server I have so much pride watching this dude improve during his day here. Everyone cheering for him when he one hands that tray of fries is so familiar and warming to me. The comradery of the restaurant business is none other like I've experienced elsewhere. Truly a family usually of misfits.

Andrew looks a little like a young Mark Ruffalo.

"The atmosphere, it's a fun place; any hour of the day it's crazy" translates to loud, uncomfortably full and busy.

"Exactly the same as the 1950's"
Yep, back then a pastrami would cost $21.

Damn some of those prices are nuts. Fries and coleslaw is 13$+?

6:00 "I will say, he's a little too nice. We got to get him to be a little bit meaner, get that New York edge to him."
Well he's southern-native, not a whole lot you can do about southern hospitality
