Experimental leaves only Hungry Bin six months in.

This Hungry Bin has been going for 6 months now and is halfway full. The castings at the bottom are rich and flakey and the worms have multiplied. I'm only going to harvest this bin when it is completely full of castings. We are looking at another 6 months I think.

Very cool! You made your own forest floor. I think that is a good use for that hungry bin 😊 it seems the worms like this environment better. Looking forward to see the harvest. 👍

I do think if they redesigned the lid with a option of screened opening in the lid that could also be closed, if wanted/needed, it would be a better system.

very nice, I like the hungry bin but I went cheap and got an urban worm bag which I like although it won't last as long as the hungry bin. I grind up eggshells for grit but I love the idea of adding azomite or rock dust as well.

How do you keep the leaf litter moist? It sounds bone dry.

Even in your other bins mixture of leaves with card board, coir etc would enrich your bedding :).

Looks like you're composting rather than vermicomposting...I am no expert...just looking for ideas why my worm are escaping to the bottom 20 at a time. Seems like I need to feed daily in a 60 gallon bin.

Hi and thank you for sharing. How long till you feed the bin with leaves again? Just curious how long of mainenance window you have when you are gone for a long time. Two to four weeks stand alone during a vacation when you are gone? I have my country house which i only visit every 2 to 4 weeks. Can I feed the worms with a good amount of leaves and leave for a few weeks?
